We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaron Slachter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aaron, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I got my start in 1997. Finished up my apprentiship and was called to the Fire Department. Along my journeys as a fire fighter, I connected with many, many veterans, active duty, first responders etc. As a result, my personal clientele base is very much public servants, doctors, paramedics, veterans etc…

I retired from the fire service June 24 2019. My focus has always been to tattoo full time eventually but, the fire department requires all of you.

Once I retired, I dove straight in with a 5 year business plan and knew that tattooing was going to be my chapter two and I was just driven.

My brand is black and grey realism. I create a lot of patriotic tattoo, floral work, portraits and scary imagery. I dabble in color, but my primary focus is B&G realism.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is black and grey realism. Portriats, real imagery, mountain scale, desert scale, flower work and scary portrait imagery.

I’m super excited that I am just fortunate to have a beautiful studio to work at. My artists are just the most amazing people I have ever known. Zero drama, nothing but grinding every day.

There was nothing easy about getting to where I am personally. I’m very goal oriented and knew that this would be chapter two for me. My wife helped out immensely. I wouldn’t be where I am in like without her support and love.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a buddy came in to town, I would take them to Sabino Canyon in Tucson and we would go for a hike. Next, we would go to flagstaff and or Sadona to get a ways and enjoy northern AZ.

Maybe we would hop on the motorcycles and explore some of the most beautiful places in Tucson. A restaurant that is amazing on top of Mount Lemmon would be the Saw Mill.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was fortunate to have stellar leaders and mentors in much career thus far.

Paul Collins with Shades Of GreyTattoo for giving me my first chance at success in the industry.

Second, would be Kevin Patrick with Humble & Grand Tattoo in Tucson.

My wife kelly, she has been my absolute rock and held the fort down while I transitioned out of the fire service and into the tattoo industry.
