We had the good fortune of connecting with Aftyn Owens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aftyn, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking plays a vital role in everyones life, its helps shape our personal growth. It can build resilience and lead to self discovery. Taking risks can allow for life changing experiences and lead you to new found interests or hobbies. I’ve taken a few risks in my life, some calculated and some not so calculated or planned out, but there’s nothing I regret. Everything has shaped me into the individual I am today. I think one of the biggest risks I took was moving away from family and friends to a state with my husband and oldest son not knowing anyone. I allowed myself to explore different cultures and and found new interests in areas I would have never thought about if I was still in my comfort zone. In that risk, I overcame the fear of not knowing. In that space I was able to start a new career and tap into a whole new level of confidence. Being around individuals who were business oriented and go getters that let no one or nothing stop them from going after what they wanted, made me think. What’s stopping me from this mindset? Self-doubt, this has played a huge role in my life. I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, second guessing myself and self-doubt was a thing for me for a very long time. But I took a leap of faith and bet on myself, I started to put in the work to get closer to the vision I had for myself. That meant, therapy, working on effective communication and studying my craft that I want to perfect. I take pride in genuinely being able to help others accomplish a goal or guiding them in their own risk taking journey.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I knew from early on I wanted to be in position to help people, I had a dream of becoming a judge for the very longest. But life happened and my focus altered, I graduated with my BA in business management and that still wasn’t enough or me. I started the real estate journey back in 2018 in Virginia, and after researching more about being my own boss and the numerous opportunities real estate can lead you to I was intrigued. After becoming pregnant with twins, my little family and I moved back to our home town Phoenix, AZ and hit the ground running. I completed my real estate courses and became licensed. One of my main challenges is being in my head way too much and just overthinking every step I take. I’ve had to learn to give myself grace, and allow myself to just be in the moment. I’m very proud of myself and how far I have come. I see so many agents in the industry with so much knowledge and have to remember they’ve been in this for years and years. Ill get there! My business focus is driven to help those ready to take that leap into one of the most expensive purchases you’ll make in your life. Whether its buying a fixer upper or a new construction, selling your home or searching for an investment property, Aftyn Owens is ready when you are.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh goodness lol I absolutely love a good Mexican restaurant and Centrico located in downtown phoenix is a favorite place of mine, they have a brunch menu with some really good drinks. For fun and delicious cocktails we would visit Bitter and Twisted also located in downtown Phx. Im an outdoors person that loves water and so good spa and pool day at Omni Scottsdale Montelucia with the camelback mountain view is pure fun to me. For exploration and learning some interesting facts of not the typical Arizona things to do, we would visit the Japanese Friendship Garden of Phx, this is an absolute must. Its beautiful and so peaceful. I love watching theatre and plays so a trip to the Phoenix Theatre Company to check out some of the most talented people in Arizona would be an added stop. I would do an evening at Cham Pang Lanes in downtown phoenix, it has a fun vibrant atmosphere and bowling is always a good time. Arizona has some gems and I can appreciate the growth that’s taken place with restaurants and activities. Now a week is a lot of time to entertain someone and if they are my close friends we are definitely doing a day rest.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely want to give all thanks to the most high, God has kept me and has shown me my own strength through and through. I want to thank my mom, she has always been in my corner and by witnessing her strength and determination to conquer obstacles and reach her success is admirable. My husband, he has been my support from jump and I am truly thankful for the gentle love, kindness and patience he displays with me. He has never changed up and I appreciate his consistency. Thank you Jon for reaching out to me for this opportunity, it was a pleasant surprise!
