We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexander Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexander, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking has always been the key component toward separating Originators Media from our competitors and standing out in my personal life as well. In this modern day and age, technology and information are moving so quickly that it’s important to realize that we can’t keep doing the same things to get to the same results that everyone wants to see. A big risk that we take at Originators Media is travel. We work within The United States, Central America, and Canada year after year to complete long and short form video projects.
Another risk that we’ve taken year after year is investing in ourselves and the projects that we’re passionate about. Whether it’s learning more about the engineering behind DIY LED Lighting installments and offering solutions for smaller events that might not normally have a budget for lighting, or working on social justice based short documentaries. We’re always ready to take a risk and support what we believe in while having fun doing it. This kind of risk taking also opens up opportunities for other businesses, communities, and individuals to benefit off our risk by taking a chance with us.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a part of the music, art, and entertainment industry, I think that one of the most important things that I’ve learned over at Originators Media is that our industry is a free market. Anyone has the ability to be better than the next at any given time and might have even done less or more to get to that spot. Finding your place in this industry and allowing your company to be flexible within that space has been a helpful business move. For us, this came from diversifying our product mix, strong networking and relationship building, and innovation in a way that isn’t too far ahead of the curve but geared towards adding the tools that we need to be competitive.
Originators Media started off as a more developed branch of our initial business and website The-Re-Up.com. We started as a media production company and online publication but over the years we’ve shifted into Media, Artist Management, Live Event Production, and Consulting. We initially added Artist Management to our product mix but as we expanded into different territories and genres, we looked into ways that we can sell a product on a daily basis for a cheaper price that’s open to a wider audience. This is where we began offering more a la carte services from Resort and Live Performance videos to playlisting and one on one consulting services covering topics ranging from Music Licensing to Releases and everything in between.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
If there’s one person in my life who deserves some credit, recognition, and thanks it’s Casey Scalf, the owner of Sensebellum / Lumenarius / Naturally Digital Design. Not only has Casey been a mentor for me in the world of event lighting and installments but he’s been a friend and positive role model to look up to over the years. It’s one thing to have someone there to teach you the in’s and out’s of something that you’re passionate about. A stepo up from this is when you have someone to look up to and a clear vision of what it looks like to be more successful in your field, it shows the sign of a strong mentor.
