We had the good fortune of connecting with ALEXANDRA MCCULLOUGH and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ALEXANDRA, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We left really good traditional corporate jobs to live van life. After a few months on the road living off of savings, we knew we needed to supplement our income if we were going to keep living an unconventional lifestyle. After getting a lot of questions about van life, we decided we could best serve our community by sharing information about life on the road and building a rig so that others can experience the joy of van life too. Our mission is to help aspiring freedom seekers to step outside the norm and build a life they love.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As video creators, we spend countless hours filming and editing our twice-weekly series on YouTube. In 3 years on the road, we’ve created hundreds of videos that have not only grown our YouTube channel but our larger business as video editors. We use the skills we’ve developed to create marketing videos for products as well now. It’s fun to see your vision and creation come to life. Editing video has become something we really enjoy. Telling stories with our camera. There’s a big learning curve and your first videos will be crap compared to your 100th then your 100th will be crap compared to your 500th. It’s all about developing the skill, learning the program, and getting better at telling stories.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love to visit Chaparral Park and take our dog Paco for a walk in the morning so he can play with the other dogs and get some energy out. Then we would head over to Kaleidoscope Juice for a nice juice or coffee (or a yummy treat!). Then we would head over to the Pheonix Mountain Preserve and decide what kind of hike we were in the mood for (something very strenuous or more mellow if it’s way too hot out) and bring some snacks to enjoy at one of the many scenic viewpoints (pack in and pack out!). After that, we would probably take a nap or relax in the van for a while before heading to Earth Plant Based Cuisine for a delicious dinner!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When we were first researching van life, we looked to other couples on the road traveling full time. We wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for Trent and Allie who showed us van life in Central America or Eamon and Bec who encouraged us to build a business from a van.
