We had the good fortune of connecting with Alison Morquecho and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alison, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my Bookstagram at the beginning of 2016 because I didn’t have any IRL friends who loved reading and I needed to gush over books with someone. I didn’t start really building my account until 2019. I decided I wanted to work in book publishing. I went back to school and started growing my bookstagram. My first thought was that I wanted to grow to have more opportunities in the book publishing industry, but what ended up happening was that I found an amazing community of book lovers and became friends with so many. I still want to keep growing my platform and work in publishing, but my bookstagram is more about what I love to read and connecting with book lovers now.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My want to do outlandish and crazy things sets me apart from others. I have done some wild stuff for the perfect photo, and I love it. I love going above and beyond with my photos. To get where I am today took a lot of time and commitment. I have learned to balance my social media time with my family and home life time alot better now. One lesson I’ve learned along the way is that social media isn’t everything. I used to get very stressed out and get a lot of anxiety when I couldn’t post at a certain time or if I couldn’t post six times in a row. Now I take time off on the weekend to spend time with my family without worrying about my account. I love the story behind my handle @thebookishcamper. It was so hard trying to come up with a name. At the time we were living dulltime in our camper so the bookish camper came to life. We are now back in our camper full time and I love that my handle fits me perfectly again.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is such a hard question because there are some amazing places in Arizona. We would have to do at least two days in Sedona. Sedona is one of my favorite places on earth. The views are stunning, and the hikes are the best. So we would definitely do a few hikes in Sedona. Then we would have to go to the Grand Canyon. I would then take them to one of my favorite bookstores in my area, the Peregrine book company. It is a beautiful bookstore with a gigantic book selection. Then we would try to hike at a few of my favorite spots in Prescott. One day we would definitely have to go to Flagstaff and do some of the beautiful hikes out there. Another day we would go down to Phoenix and hit up some of the bookstores. Changing Hands is one of my favorites, and they even have a bar and eating area in one of their stores with a bookish menu

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Hmmm I would definitely love to dedicate my shoutout to my husband. He helps me a lot in brainstorming, filming, and supports my book buying addiction 🤣
