We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allison, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always thrives in creativity I never really knew how to hone my skill until I started pursuing hair. Creating through painting has been something I love since I was very little. So, “painting hair” is now what I do and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. Along with that, I remember growing up wanting to find a way to creatively encourage people. I would constantly find myself trying to find ways to help people with their confidence through simple things like a small compliment, helping friends with makeup and hair, or offering support through being there for someone. When I went to your a beauty school it just all clicked.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve realized over the past few months that I naturally customize my placement for every client. That basically means I take their head shape, hair texture, the way they style it, and where the hair falls naturally into account when coloring. It’s a little extra work to figure out but, it really pays off in the end results. I don’t foil any two clients the same! I got to where I am today with a lot of support. I surround myself with great people who believe in my business and my work.
I’ve learned that you never stop learning! I learn so much from other creators and stylists and it’s insane when we can build each other up rather than compete with each other.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love AZ! I would take them to Odysea Aquarium and then go eat somewhere like Postinos, Culinary Dropout, or Chop Shop! I love going to midtown Phx and shopping in the vintage stores and funky shops. I’m a big fan of board games, up by norterra there’s a shop called Meeples and Beyond and they have so many awesome board games for insanely good prices. Great little mom and pop shop.
Thrifting is also something I love! Goodwill, savers, value village, and the random little thrift stores!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost shoutout to Jesus for giving me a heart for people, without that drive, my job would be a lot harder. Next, I want to recognize the part my parents played by supporting me through going an “unconventional” route. My mom really influenced my decision to just take the leap and learn! My husband has been my biggest fan through my career and I’m so thankful for that. He’s always eager to see my work and ask questions on how I got to the end result. I also want to say a big shout out to my friends and mentors, Derrick and Claudine. They both really believed in me through my time in school. They started out as my instructors and truly grew to be great friends. Their kindness, patience, and continued encouragement is so so appreciated.
