We had the good fortune of connecting with Allisyn Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allisyn, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My motto since I first decided I wanted to be an entrepreneur has been “work smarter, not harder.” Many may take that quote and correlate it with laziness, I interpret this quote as a way to accomplish more throughout not only your days, but throughout life. I have put in my fair share of 12+ hour days, only for the funds to barely cover one of my bills. I decided pretty quickly that work would never take over my life. I was unable to enjoy my life and missed out on a lot of important things when work was taking all my time. That’s when I knew I had to find a way to create a balance. I took a risk when starting my business, I wanted my wife, kids and myself to continue BMX racing and travel throughout the year for the National races.
My work life balance slowly stopped becoming work life balance fairly quickly after starting Flying High Drone. In the beginning stages, researching and understanding the ins and outs of drone engineering, mapping, photography, and thermal imaging gave me a huge push in the overall success of my business. I fell in love with anything and everything drone related, and the rest is history. I think the balance between work and life is rarely an issue when you love what you do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My vision for Flying High was to create First Person View (FPV) videos for fast action sports, specifically BMX racing as my family and I are very involved in the BMX community. I started my business in Montana in August of 2021 and I honestly didn’t expect a job for months. To my surprise, within the first couple of weeks in business I produced an amazing video for a client rounding up his cows for the season. Shortly after that, I used my drone to find horses lost in a pasture. Once the ball started rolling, it kept on rolling. The biggest challenge I have experienced so far, is not believing in myself. So world, my words of wisdom are when you believe, you WILL achieve.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest shoutout is, and always will be my wife, Alix. She is honestly the reason I had enough confidence to even take the jump and start my business. She has been here with me every step of the way, and I am so very thankful she let’s me ramble her ear off about drones on the daily. Thank you for everything you do for me and the boys as a mother and wife, and everything you’ve done for my business. I love you and appreciate you always. I also want to give a shoutout to Kyle Girardo and his crew at AZ Commercial Drones. He has been an incredible role model. He’s answered my absurd amount of questions about anything and everything in this field and has pointed me in the right direction on how to maintain a successful drone business in Arizona. Him and his crew do incredible work and I am proud to work in the same field with guys like him!
