Meet Alyson Rose | Social Media Entrepreneur & Makeup Enthusiast

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyson Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyson, what do you attribute your success to?
When I started social media, I had no specific goal in mind. I just one day got up and started posting videos. Nothing was calculated towards growing a following, I just wanted to be myself and share a passion for something I love. I started to tell my stories. Most of them being about my experiences in the past working at a retail makeup store and some of the crazy customers I’d encounter. One day, out of the blue, the videos spread like wildfire, gaining millions of views in the matter of a couple of days. I was shocked. I didn’t even know how, or why. But the more my videos grew, the more of a community was built among my viewers. Some people are retail employees relating to similar experiences, some are consumers sharing their stories on shopping. Some people just ask questions and want advice on their personal makeup routine. I realize that my page had become a safe space for those to not only watch and be entertained, but also to share their thoughts and experiences in the beauty world. So I guess to answer your question, it was staying connected to my growing community, continuing to post content that they loved and enjoyed, and maintaining a safe environment for all to feel welcome to share and ask questions.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always been a girly girly. Makeup, hair, clothes, fashion, it’s my form of expression. When I was old enough to search the world of YouTube I quickly came across beauty influencers. I was fascinated. I loved the idea of sharing a passion for beauty and showcasing to others the world of makeup. I even tried making a couple makeup videos in my room on my old laptop, though I never posted them online as I deemed myself incapable of the talents most other influencers possessed. That didn’t stop me from practicing and growing, and I learned how to do a half decent winged liner by the time I was 13. In my junior year of high school, I took a leap and applied for a beauty job at a popular retail makeup store. This changed my life. I worked at this store for over a year, received free training, free makeup, professional beauty knowledge, and more. Everyday I was perfecting my craft. Once I graduated high school, I decided to quit my makeup store job and attended Aveda to become an esthetician. I knew beauty was my path and wanted to grow my expertise and skills for my career goals. I graduated from Aveda in February of 2020. Of course, a month later we were hit with the Covid pandemic, and my life of beauty came to a halt. Like lots of people, Covid had a drastic impact on my life, and my passion and dream of pursuing a beauty career became lost. I was unmotivated. I think I only did my makeup 10-15 times in 2022. As the year ended, I made a resolution to find my passion for beauty again. At the time I didn’t know it would have anything to do with social media. But as I explored the world of beauty again, I discovered how much I missed sharing that part of my life with others like when I worked at the makeup store. So I decided to start posting. Truthfully, I didn’t know what I was doing. But, the more I posted, the more I learned. Once my community began to grow, I started to receive the messages and comments that changed me forever. I have so many wonderful people that reach out to me and let me know that I’ve inspired them to try new things with their makeup. That they watch my livestreams or my videos and they become passionate about beauty just like I would when I used to watch my favorite influencers. Now I want to inspire as many people as possible to do what makes them happy with beauty. To know that the limits are endless, and you can be or do whatever you want! As long as I continue to inspire and motivate others, I consider myself a successful influencer.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would have to go riding on bikes through Tempe Town Lake, especially at night! I feel it’s of the most beautiful places in the Valley! I’d also probably take them to Frank and Lupes in Old Town Scottsdale for Chile Rellenos, then for a stroll down Main Street to people watch. A little road trip up to Sedona is a must! Seeing the red rocks is an experience like no other. Most of all, we’d have to go to hole in the rock to watch an Arizona sunset.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give recognition to my parents. When I showed them the first few videos I ever made on my TikTok, they were so excited that I was doing what I loved. In fact, they both personally downloaded the app just to keep up with my account and content. They know how much I enjoy creating videos, and they have always encouraged me to continue to pursue my passions. Also, my fiancé, Chris, for always believing in me and allowing me to bounce ideas off him and look to him for insight and inspiration. And lastly, my community of supporters. They mean everything to me and have truly changed my life.
