Meet Amy Vang | Lash Artist, Lash Trainer, & Local Lash Supplier

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Vang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, what do you attribute your success to?
Be true to you. Building my lash business over the last three years has camouflaged as a self-healing journey. As the sole operator of my business, I had to fulfill all the roles necessary to keep my business running. That required me to be the most honest, raw, and vulnerable version of myself in order to address my flaws and weaknesses and find ways to strengthen them. I could not connect the dots where there were no dots. I had to dig deep to learn about myself. I had to focus on my strengths to determine what value I had to offer. It was then when I finally understood my value as a person and all the positive attributes about myself that could be beneficial to others. I applied my strengths and value to my business and brand and immediately connected to the consumers who valued my attributes. Each time I make a business change that aligns more and more with who I am, my brand reaches further to my target consumers. Being true to myself when building my brand and operating my business has single-handily been the most important factor behind my growing success.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a lash artist that specializes in custom, comfortable, and healthy lash extensions for everyone. Through eyelash extensions, I hope to promote the practice of self-love and self-acceptance. While lash extensions may seem like a simple beauty ritual to some, the deeper value lies in the self-care ritual they bring. I am also a lash extensions trainer and lash supply retailer located in Menomonee Falls, servicing the Greater Milwaukee Area and Southeast Wisconsin.
As a very small business owner and new mom, I take great pride in being able to support myself and my family. The path I took to get here was never clear. I was born the youngest of ten children to refugee immigrant parents. I am very familiar with the struggles of poverty associated with cultural displacement, minorities, and people of color. My parents did their best to clothe and feed us in a brand new country and culture, but always wanted more stability for their children. Therefore, they heavily instilled the importance of a college education. Being a college-dropout, I want to inspire others to chase their dreams, because where there is passion, the money will follow. In the midst of the pandemic, I was laid-off from my factory job and ran out of unemployment checks to collect. It was then that I realized I had no other choice but to put my lash technician skills to use. What started as my journey of self-love and acceptance has turned into a passion to help others look and feel their best, so they too can achieve their goals and further both their personal and professional development.
My business serves as testament to people with similar cultural, economic, or career adversities. It is my mission to help fellow lash-enthusiasts to make a living with their passion and skills. There ARE other pathways to success and economic stability. You do not have to rely on the employment of someone else or resort to being unemployed. You do not have to bear the judgment and disappointment of your parents, either. I want to share how rewarding it is, not just financially but mentally and emotionally as well, to create employment for yourself! The skills one has to acquire to be a successful lash artist and or business owner, are life-changing skills that don’t require a college education! All it takes is silencing the internal and external doubts so you can hear your own voice. Listen to and believe in yourself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a Milwaukee Native, there are many spots I love to share with those new to the city. The Milwaukee Public Museum is one of them. There is so much history and culture of Wisconsin that is exhibited there. The Mitchell Domes featuring plant life are another site to visit. Plan a trip to watch a Bucks game at the Fiserv Forum or a baseball match at the American Family Field. When in town, make a stop at the Milwaukee Public Market to try one of my favorite lobster rolls from St. Paul Fish Company. Speaking of seafood, dining at Harbor House on the lake is a must! For sushi-lovers I recommend Kin by Rice & Roll in Tosa. There are so many more food places to recommend due to diverse population of my city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, my mom deserves all the flowers for supporting me unwaveringly, even when she didn’t see my vision. Secondly, I give thanks to my lash trainer and mentor who believed in and cheered me on even when I didn’t believe in myself. Lastly, I want to recognize the Hmong community I grew up in, As an adult, I finally understand the importance of community. My community was caring, giving, wise, and instilled in some of the very values I hold today that I attribute to my business success.
