We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony (Tony) Kintz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anthony (Tony), what is the most important factor behind your success?
Absolutely. Without a doubt, the most important factor in my success has been God. Once I truly got right with the Lord and committed to living by His Word, everything in my life began to align—starting with my mindset, my discipline, and how I approach both challenges and opportunities.
For a long time, I was trying to do things in my own strength—chasing success, working hard, but not really feeling fulfilled or grounded. But once I made the decision to truly surrender my life to Christ and let His Word guide me, it changed everything. I started praying over decisions, leaning into Scripture for wisdom, and operating with integrity and purpose. That foundation gave me a sense of peace and clarity I didn’t have before. I wasn’t just building a business anymore—I was building something with meaning, something that honored God.
Verses like Colossians 3:23—“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters”—really shifted how I view work. It reminded me that my effort isn’t just for success or recognition—it’s an act of worship. Proverbs is full of wisdom about diligence, stewardship, and integrity, and I started applying those principles to how I led my team, how I treated clients, and even how I handled finances.
I’d say: start by getting your foundation right. Don’t just chase success—seek God first. Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” That’s not just a spiritual cliché—it’s a promise. When you align your life with His Word, you’ll find a purpose and strength that no strategy, money, or hustle can give you. That’s when real, lasting success comes.

What should our readers know about your business?

My journey to owning a mine safety consulting business began long before I ever filed any paperwork or trained my first client. In many ways, I was born into it. As a fourth-generation miner, mining runs deep in my blood. My father and grandfather were gold miners in Northern California, and from an early age, I was immersed in the culture, the risks, and—most importantly—the importance of safety in mining.

When I was just seven years old, my father began working with the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). That marked a turning point for both him and me. I became fascinated with safety regulations—especially CFR 30, the federal code governing mine safety. While most kids were reading comic books, I was thumbing through pages of safety protocols, genuinely captivated by the structure and purpose behind them.

After high school, I went straight to work in an underground limestone mine in Southwest Iowa. I spent years in the mining industry, and although I tried my hand at other careers—working as a prison guard, truck driver, and even pursuing automotive training at WyoTech in 2013—mining always called me back. Cars remained more of a hobby, but mining, and especially mine safety, was my true path.

The idea to start my own training business took root in a conversation with my father. He mentioned that if he ever retired from MSHA, he’d like to start his own training company. That idea stuck with me. I decided to get certified as an MSHA trainer and founded *Rebel Mine Safety Consultants* in 2019. The early days were tough—finding clients was hit or miss, and while there was always just enough to keep going, I was far from thriving.

Then, in June of this year, everything changed. I learned that Clarence Ellis, a respected and long-time mine safety trainer, had passed away. I was fortunate to acquire his company, *Arizona Safety Management*, which helped expand my client base and solidify my place in the industry. Now, my father—recently retired—works for me full time, and I’m training my son to join the business after he graduates next year. Three generations working together to promote mine safety: it feels like everything has come full circle.

Owning a business hasn’t felt like a struggle most days, but the truth is, the road has been full of hard lessons, tight margins, and uphill battles. Still, every step of the journey has led me to where I am now—doing what I love, building a legacy, and helping others stay safe in an industry that’s given so much to my family.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting for a week, I’d definitely take them to Sloan Park to catch a Cubs game—it’s always a great time and part of the local experience. We’d probably also spend a lot of time in the mountains, since I love being out in nature. There’s nothing better than fresh air, scenic views, and some quiet time away from everything.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Father Dennis Kintz has been and will always be a huge influence to who I am today. Also, my wife Cody Kintz, she has always supported me in everything that I tried even when its results were lack luster. Of course my mother Sandra thought me how to allow your heart to be your guide. She allowed me to find the right thing. And book wise the Bible has made huge impacts throughout.
