We had the good fortune of connecting with Autumn Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Autumn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was not planning to start Gentle Hearts Dog Education. My husband and I have done a lot of volunteer work for Veterans over the years. He has had his own service dog for 8 years. @scottbulletdog We have seen the need and would occasionally help people with their dogs and train service dogs. It has become a huge problem in the community with undertrained dogs causing a problem for working service dogs disrupting their work. And talking to other people and they say their service dog is at home because there is to many problems to bring the dog out into public with the handler. Most places train the dog and then give the dog to the handler. A year or two down the road the handler runs into issues and is not equipped with the knowledge to address the problems with the dog. This causes the Handler mental distress and makes the situation worse. We strive to give the power back to the handler and dog. That is why we work with both the handler than the animal. If we do our part right, they will not need us to retrain the dog, or their future dogs. BUT we are there to help with any issues that do arise in the future.
We also are helping people train their companion dogs. As any well behaved dog in public is a benefit to society as a whole, not just other dog/ handler teams.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Mom, Wife, Grandmother, Veteran. Sometimes Doors open that you would never expect to take. You just have to take the chance and do it, even when it is not “part of the Plan.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would go to Sabino Canyon, Tombstone, Mt Lemmon. We would eat as much real Mexican food as possible.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All the others helping Veterans by donating time, money and resources!
