We had the good fortune of connecting with BalJit Soul and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi BalJit, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am originally from Philadelphia (Philly) a really tough love kind of city. It’s a city that kind of prepares you to make it anywhere! My city raised me and I’ll always love and honor where I came from however … It plays a huge part in who I am today because it’s not so easy growing up there! It’s very much a place I knew I didn’t fit in I didn’t belong I always knew I had to go elsewhere to spread my wings and be free! Although I love my city I also know the closed minded unsupportive nature it holds gives a very “crab in a barrel” feel! I’m not saying it’s all bad there’s just too many people who feel they don’t wanna see you on top they find a lot of ways to pull you down and keep you down if you allow it! Which was a huge impact on my life and pushing me to move away and blossom!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art form is singing !! Something I’ve been doing literally since I was able to speak ! However I do have several instruments under my belt. The keyboard, violin, and trumpet ! Music all together is my ART! I remember as a child I’d put on shows for my family starting from 3grade!! I’ve always had a voice but it wasn’t always easy being different! Growing up it was the norm to be outside running up and down the street getting dirty and I would be the kid in the house sitting with my mom singing !!! I had no interest in getting rough and playing with the other kids outside IF I did go outside I’d be the human jukebox lol! The thing about me is I’m gonna always find time to sing no matter what!!! I’d like to say what sets me apart from the millions of other singers/performers out in the world.. With all due respect I’m not doing it in vain! I’m not doing it just because I can or “hey look at me” It’s actually my calling! Music is and has always been a healing for the traumas I’ve faced as a youth even up to adulthood! So because it’s a healing for me anyone who comes under the sound of my voice I use that for a healing for them as well! Music is the universal language it’s meant to make people feel good feel better let them know they aren’t alone! Each note that comes out of my voice is a medicine for everyone who needs it every if they don’t realize they do! It’s taken me years of hard work and beating the ground to get where I am today and I still have a lot to reach and now they older more experienced me is loving every moment of the now the past and what’s to come!! Im very excited to let you guys know I have finally got a band of my own “GoldWax Revival” where I’m the Lead of a 11 piece band !! Overcoming the many challenges I faced as being an artist was not easy there were times I’m just like .. you know what maybe this isn’t for me maybe it isn’t my calling maybe just maybe I’m holding on to a dream that’ll never become reality! You have to understand as an artist of any form of art we are sensitive about what we put out for the public eye and we are very hard on ourselves!! When you get random screenshots and or conversations from people playing your songs and telling you how much they are touched by your sound it makes u snap back into reality and realize I’m not here for me I’m here for them and that’s what sparks that flame again! Overall I’ve learned timing and patience is EVERYTHING keep going don’t give up someone or more than one is relying on you’re gift to keep them pushing

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend weee to come to town it would be THE MOST AMAZING TIME EVER! We love to BRUNCH and downtown Phoenix is my favorite place to be !!! Specifically my brunch spot is Bliss Rebar! Other places I love to go are Crescent Ballroom , Lost Leaf , there used to be a spot called Paz which was my favorite too. Lots of coffee shops have tea sit by the pools go ATV riding , go kart racing zip lining laser tagging all the fun adventures for sure!!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would first love to give a shout-out to God! The one reason I’m still here today!! I have to give thanks to my parents my momma is my number one supporter she’s on top of it all lol !! Also my bonus mother who’s no longer with us physically she would always encourage me to be FREE!!! My step father who was very heavy on discipline I never knew how much I needed that! To all my siblings even if you guys don’t know I work hard and pray hard to give you guys everything plus more! I have to shout out my grandma too she’s my singer partner for sure !! Lol our long days and nights just up singing and laughing!! I definitely most certainly have to give props to my uncle William and his wife/my aunt Camille Sledge ! I came out here to Arizona in 2016 for a visit and I sorta imposed because I already had my mind made that I was staying! Since coming here they’ve pointed me in all the right directions in life to get my music up and running! Starting with their amazing non profit School Of HipHop Phx to introducing me to all the right people to being on stages I used to dream of and now here I am years later rocking BIG CROWDS!!! I can’t leave out the few cousins and true friends who has been such a support and blessing as well ! I love you guys DOWN
