Meet Becky Wolcott | Linoleum Block designer, hand carver, printer and Hand Embroidery Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Becky Wolcott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Becky, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic career because I was born into our family jewelry store, Leon Ness Jewelry Barn. Being an artist was apart of the deal. I grew up repairing jewelry, painting-repairing-upholstery furniture, quilting, and making clothing.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have two creative loves in my life. Linoleum block printing and Hand Embroidery are in my soul. I started linoleum block design when I was in high school. It was an instant artist connection. I am a proud mom and my 3 girls have made many designs for me. I love having them apart of business.
My Hand Embroidery connects me to the land. Saguaros are like life. There are twists, turns, and straight lines. It slows me down and allows me to put a piece of me into everything I create.
Getting to this stage of my carrier was not easy. My husband was in the USAF so we moved a lot. Plus Being a mother changes your priorities. Now that he is retired and my girls are older I have been able to move forward with my business.
I have learned so much over the years. The main thing is being true to I am as a person. Being a mom has pushed me to always do my best. Give it all no matter what. Showing my girls that if you put your heart and soul into what you love you can make it.
My little shop is everything to me. I love meeting every single customer and hearing how they connect with an embroidery or a shirt design. My customers mean the word to me. I hope to have my own shop one day. That’s the big dream!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many great places to go in Tucson but I love to stay close to my home. Saguaro Corners is one of my favorite restaurants for lunch or dinner and right across the street is Saguaro National Park. I could spend so many days there. We would have to grab a slice at my favorite pizza place, Arizona Pizza Co. I stop to see some animals at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and dinner at Vivace Restaurant. I fun trip to Tombstone and lunch at The Crystal Palace. The barnyard craft house and eatery would be a great place for dinner along with a fun weekend going to the Rincon Valley Farmers and Artisans Market on Saturday and Sunday stop by St. Philips Plaza Market to see all the local art

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Jack, and my girls, Ellie, Karlie, Miya are the reason I am where I am. They have each supported me in so many ways. Whether it’s time away at markets, helping me design, create, fold, tag, put up with the constant mess of work around our living room or studio. I couldn’t do anything without them. I love them all, more than they will ever know.
