We had the good fortune of connecting with Beth Rivelli and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Beth, we understand how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I grew up in a family of five girls and 53 cousins, a fertile ground for developing comfort with crowded rooms, big meals and fighting for the last bite. So as someone steeped in family with an expectation to have my own, I was devastated when motherhood passed me by and shattered that dream. At 42, I joined a growing population of childless women: one in five, most not by choice.

As a coach, I was convinced that the women I would work with would be those just like me, those who had involuntarily missed motherhood. I quickly realized that I, and the women I wanted to serve, were the symptoms of a cultural root cause. And that is when I got very curious and started exploring the “why”, the reason we had all ended up here.

What I uncovered, through conversations with women who are not yet mom’s, was a host of unspoken cultural messages that are keeping us stuck. What I uncovered was a propensity, for various reasons, to stay silent about this part of our lives. What I uncovered was that even though we are strong women who run companies and even countries, this part of our lives is still lived out based on an old paradigm that says motherhood will just happen. In response, I birthed my Blow Up the Clock movement.

Blow up the Clock brings new awareness and education to this part women’s lives. It is for women who know they want to be mothers, but who aren’t ready *right now*. They tend to be careerists who continually hit mute on this part of their lives while telling themselves it will happen “someday”. Blow Up the Clock invites women into a new paradigm where motherhood isn’t a subtraction, but an addition to their thriving careers. This movement enables them to unlock their vision, take full ownership of their journey and live as kick-ass sovereign citizens who get to define what “someday” means for them. In other words, they live this part of their lives from a fully conscious, empowered mindset. The women who complete the Blow Up the Clock program walk away transformed as they now embrace and own an eyes-wide-open experience.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is completely self-invented. I’ve even developed my own vocabulary to communicate my message. I call myself a Motherhood Story Coach and I am 100% certain that no other coach uses that title. I have often referred to the journey of my mission as one that is uphill in the mud. The fear and disempowerment that women tend to carry regarding this journey TO motherhood means they are often triggered in a way that causes them to run. It takes a brave woman to face this sensitive part of her life. I call these women the early adopters. I want women to know that they do not have to be alone in this conversation and that there is a place to have it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As I live in Sonoma, without a doubt, we would explore the top wineries on their list. We would explore Yountville and Thomas Keller’s side of the street. We would savor the flavors of Animo, the local Basque/Korean restaurant with Michelin star dreams. Of course, with so much nature around we would hike the trails of Muir Woods and Mt. Tam and take in the breathtaking view of the ocean from high on the mountain. And then mix with the locals at some live band karaoke. If it’s summer then attending City Party in Sonoma Square is a must.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
