We had the good fortune of connecting with Bethanie Schmidt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bethanie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Community networking and personal connections are the upmost importance for success. Without recources and and community partners it’s hard to outreach with supplies you need

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In the media there is alot of talk about the homeless I believe all the other homless helpers do all the hard work and I get the fun job. In my opinion we have lost track of how to talk to people of a lower status then us because A. They are making businesses lose customers B. They aren’t cleaning up after themselves. C. violence and thievery. Hug a thug believes qe have most of the answers to our homless problem with drug managment ( not sobriety we gotta work our way there) designated homless areas where they can be while it’s hot and hopefully employers for odd jobs will stop by and recrute for work they need fill ins for. I hope to have a community center and bouji camp sites dedicated to the homless that is monitored and the only rules being no drama and to Clea up after themselves. I hope to bring jobs based off criminology so people are praised for their skills instead of punished. I’m here to take situational disadvantages of lifestyle choices and give people an entire new direction all based off of community connections and bringing back the normalization of BBQ amongst friends and families all by just being the one to bring back the life in their eyes by community connections. Tho not funded yet and have little to no help I believe what my ideas are of help are completely unfettered and with no conditions. Are mission statement here at hug a thug goes as followed : Blueprint guidance for imagination is the key to success provide motivation and inspiration to encourage curiosity to build connections that creat value. Hug a thug!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If friends visited me I would show them to the river bottom on 7ave (Rio salado) while I was out there cleaning up trash we found a secret waterfall that was beautiful, I probably wouldn’t have much to show as I’m not familiar with most cool attractions and I love to just eat at taco bell. The most exciting things are the uncommon places Noone knows about I’m still trying to find them I love adventures and try to find one every day

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The homless: all of the people that helped me help them by cleaning up trash or just watching out for my safety while we’re cleaning up the trenches. They are helping me understand if what I believe will work is truly helping and so far we have been successful
