We had the good fortune of connecting with bradley dickey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi bradley, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My though was, “what’s a better way to make the community and world a safer place for everyone to enjoy, while taking away added stress from unwanted individuals “. Thats why i started my own security company. In today’s new digital world, information travels quickly across the internet. It’s easy for the public to gain access to information and learn when and where a celebrity, dignitary or executive will be. While this can be an asset to generating widespread publicity, it can pose a danger when a group or an individual is seeking to discredit or harm someone. Security protection for executives or key personnel, or for high-profile persons such as celebrities is critical. The ability to perform at high levels, to function, travel and live a normal life can be greatly impacted if personal safety is at risk.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I currently have 2 careers going at this time. My first one being a full-time nurse for ensign, a Healthcare company. Ive been a nurse for almost 4 years and love helping people in their time of need. I was also told that i have what’s called good bedside manner, however I think it’s just the southern in me. It wasn’t easy becoming a nurse. I was a full-time student and working a full-time job for almost 2 years to get where I am in the nursing field. I would go to school during the week and then work doubles on the weekends. The scariest part of it was going to take the state test for nursing.

As for my second career, Executive protection agent, I’ve been doing that now for almost 4 years and it all started when a friend of mine asked if I would be interested in something like that. Of course, at the time i thought “don’t you have to be like a secret service agent for all that”. After talking with him and finding out that the private security industry had alot to offer and there was yet another way to help people, so i jumped on the opportunity. Just like the Military, this career field requires you to be physically fit and mentally sound. I believe what sets me apart from other people in this career would have to be my personal skills with other people and my ability to adapt and overcome. I am someone to thinks on my feet and can do that and still be humble and respectful. Being an executive protection agent is much like being a bad-ass assistant. We handle everything from calculated movements, risk assessments, route planning, forward observations, intel, surveillance, counter surveillance, Contacts and even run to get you coffee. It’s all about keeping you safe with the lowest threat level possible while providing hospitality. Everything we do is based on threat. The biggest challenges of becoming an Executive protection agent or starting your own company is knowing the right people. The business is all about who you know. Ive learned along the way, ways to connect with people and find some jobs here and there. LinkedIn is a very valuable tool to have to gain contacts with the right people. Also attending EP related events to network is a must. Lessions i have learned along the way would have to be, to always be humble and give back. Being humble about things just shows in general you’re not malicious. If someone ever helps you out with a job in this career field, you always want to give back to them when you have the chance. The pie is big enough for everyone to get a slice. One thing i would want the world to know about me or my brand is, I commit to understand and overcome anything that challenges my client’s safety, privacy, or peace of mind. I commit to strengthen my client’s confidence every day through integrity, effectiveness, creativity, sensitivity, and diligence.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, it’s no secret that all my friends or people that would visit me love to go shoot guns. A good weeklong trip would start with the downtown Tucson life. There’s a good bar downtown that has well over 400 different kinds of whiskey called “Batch” on Broadway. If you are looking for a really good whiskey drink, this is the place to take someone. After that we would visit various night clubs, one of which my favorites are highwire. Recovering the next morning i would take everyone out shooting to blow off some steam or de-stress. For a late lunch we would go into the small town of vail and eat some of the best wings around from a little place called “wings on fire” followed by a bonfire that night to relax and ketch up on what’s been going on. The next day i would show them the Beauti that Arizona does have to offer, and we would travel to Sedona, AZ to spend the rest of our time. Sedona is a great place to visit and get away for a recharge. I have often heard the rocks have mentally healing powers, though I have not yet experienced that. Im sure it a metaphor for “getting away” from everyday life.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
If it wasn’t for my wife being so understanding that working 2 jobs one of which requires nonscheduled hours and a lot of time being away from home, i wouldn’t be where i am today. She is the backbone to our family and keeps me on schedule. I would also like to thank karl and AJ from KDI protection services for supporting me with continuing education and always pushing me to attain more and be professional no matter the outcome.
