We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenda Logan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brenda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Ever since I was young, I knew that I had wanted to work for myself in some capacity. As long as I could remember, my Dad had owned his own businesses and worked for himself, and I knew that is what I wanted for myself. When 2020 and Covid rolled around, I had been working in the emergency veterinary medicine field for many years by that point. Our industry took such a hit – inundated with more patients and therefore more owners, than we had seen in years prior. It was brutal. I woke up every day dreading having to go to work and “deal with one more thing”. About the same time, one of my horses was just constantly uncomfortable. I started researching alternative methods to bring him comfort. Finding PEMF therapy was what actually started me on the path to owning my own business. It wasn’t cheap to get in to so I decided that if I was going to do it, I was going to jump in with both feet. I took the leap in 2021 and started Swayze Days Equine, LLC.

What should our readers know about your business?
Swayze Days Equine, LLC offers PEMF therapy to dogs, horses and humans as well as beginner and intermediate riding instruction in English and Western disciplines. I’d like to believe that what sets the PEMF side of my business apart from other practitioners is my willingness to dig deep and do the research… to learn about the various ailments, injuries and diseases and figure out how to come up with the best plan to provide comfort to my clients and patients. In regards to the animal side of the PEMF, it also helps that I’ve kept a foot in the veterinary world and I am so fortunate to have so many skilled and knowledgeable veterinarians that I can call and say “What do you think?” or “How does this sound?”. Not everyone in this field has that luxury. As far as the riding lesson portion of the business, I have said from the beginning that I wanted to be affordable. I don’t want anyone to not be able to do something that they may love or really excel at just because of finances. Yes, I do need to make a profit since this is a business, but I try very hard to work with someone if there is a concern to make these lessons happen for themselves or their child. Plus, I think it is really cool that the majority of my horses, and the ones I use for lessons, are draft horses. Not everyone can say that they learned to ride on a Clydesdale or a Gypsy. My students can. It is worth every hot day in the sun during the summer and every early morning feeding the horses to see the kids’ faces light up when they do something new.
What these students don’t know is that they make me work on myself just as much as they need to work on their ability and lessons. They make me be a better person in so many aspects. They make me focus on what’s important and not dwell on the every day things that can sometimes get in the way in our minds.
What would I want the world to know about my brand and story? Swayze Days Equine is where you can come and be 100% you. No judgement. Bring your insecurities and flaws and let’s do something to build you up. Let’s find the positive in things every day. Even if it is only for an hour that day, let’s forget about everything that is bringing you down. Let’s learn about horses and do some riding. Let’s find that amazing smile that I know you have so you can carry that through the rest of your day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a tough one! I really don’t travel much unfortunately. I do pride myself on being a pretty darn good cook though, so we would probably eat in a lot, maybe make some new recipes together, eat way too much and watch Hallmark movies in the air conditioning. (It is so hot in Arizona in the summer!) There would be some traveling though. I’ve never seen the Grand Canyon or visited Flagstaff, so we would do both of those and just find fun little hole in the wall places to visit together. I do play hockey at a couple of the local rinks with a group called Puckhead Hockey, so we would definitely end up at a rink, whether for a game or to do a public skate and get out of the heat.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It really does take a village. There are so many people that have been instrumental in different ways…and also a couple of horses. My Dad, who is unfortunately no longer with us and didn’t get to hear all about this new business of mine, really instilled the importance of hard work in my mind at a young age. He always had the best advice.
All of the horses in my life – Swayze is who this business is named after. He is my 22 year old Clydesdale gelding that has taught so many people about how gentle these giant horses can be. Mario, who is (now was!) perpetually uncomfortable, for making me did deeper and explore possibilities.
Every friend and veterinarian that encouraged me over the years and supported my ideas when I came to them with a “What do you think about this” question. Specifically Dr. Kim Olson for making me want to be smarter and Dr. Chantelle Khambholja for always believing in me.
Truly every friend that I have that supports my business and encourages me. Every share on Facebook or other social media. Every “mention” or shout out. Kadriya Sallus with Salt River Vaulters is instrumental in my social media presence.
And lastly, my boyfriend of five years – We may not always see eye to eye and not every day is easy, but when it comes down to it, he fully supports my business efforts and never fails to tell others what I’m doing and how great he thinks it is.
