Meet Briana Villegas | Menstrual Cycle Coach & Speaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Briana Villegas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Briana, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
From a young age, I was always very goal oriented and was never really satisfied with good enough effort. It was always 100% or nothing. This didn’t leave a lot of room for anything outside of externally defined milestones. I had a 4.0 throughout undergrad and my post-grad degrees. I took on overloads of course work each semester. My focus was always on the outcome. The problem was that there is no end to these milestones. Achieving one milestone just gave me a clear view of the next one. There was no space for celebration. There was no space for slowing down (in fact, even with multiple degrees I never attended a graduation ceremony). This approach to life finally caught up to me when I became a mom. With so many new things and people vying for my attention and my energy, the lack of balance was no longer sustainable. I was in a way forced to slow down. but I found myself defaulting to that all or nothing pattern just in the opposite direction. My journey towards work-life balance was a process of integrating the parts of me that wanted to go all out and the parts of me that needed rest. This required me to get really clear on my values and define my own milestones. Now, I view balance in a much more holistic way. I no longer am trying to do all the things at 100%. Instead I am in tune with my natural ebb and flow of energy through menstrual cycle awareness, and I choose where I want to direct my energy each month. Some months my family gets my peak energy and sometimes it goes to my business. In either case, I now trust that my energy always returns and there will be a time and season to support each area of my life.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a menstrual cycle coach specializing in helping entrepreneurs and corporate professionals get more good days out of the month by harnessing their menstrual cycle to optimize their energy and productivity. My entry to this work was being diagnosed with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), but the motivation was how to integrate being cyclical with achieving my goals in a way that supported rather than depleted me. There where plenty of hurdles to getting access to this knowledge, but the real challenge was learning to embody a cyclical approach to working and growing a business within a system that wasn’t designed to accommodate anything outside of the 9 to 5 workday. My peers in this space, have shared with my how it also took them years of trial and error and different mentors to piece together how to work cyclically and consistently. So it genuinely lights me up to be able to accelerate this timeline for busy professionals. I do this in a couple ways. I offer 1:1 strategy sessions and a group program-The Cyclical Business Blueprint-that is deigned to help entrepreneurs discover what they need as business owners to build the dream business that feels good, runs smoother, and makes more money. In corporate cohorts the focus is helping female professionals uncover the secret to sustainable success in their career without sacrificing the work-life balance they are craving. I also have a 1:1 program-Embracing Cyclical- designed to help women who are struggling with hormone imbalances and disorder heal their relationship with their cycle and discover true symptom relief.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am still new to Phoenix myself, but a few places that have captured my heart since moving here are the mountains, lake pleasant, the Phoenix botanical gardens, and spce coffee for a honey rose matcha. I’d also throw in a bucket list item to go kayaking on the Tempe river
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been so many books, podcasts, and people who have guided, and supported me along the way. However, the book that was pivotal in helping me take ownership of my life and my energy was In the Flo by Alissa Vitti.
