We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most vital component of our success is the desire to provide excellence and gratitude for the adversity. We are in the business of documenting wedding days filled with irreversible and unrepeatable memories. The entirety of our brand is built around the desire to give better to others than what we received in our wedding photos. Through experiencing the tragedy of hiring an inexperienced creative, we learned how to strive for excellence in quality. Along the way we developed and perfected an experience filled with energy and entertainment which makes photos, traditionally an uncomfortable activity for most, fun. This work aligns with our deepest desires as humans, to feel important and make others feel important. By creating photos, we are documenting legacy moments for our customers. Alex and I found a poetic way to take our own misfortune and channel it into work that inspires joy.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is creating still frame images and cinematic footage of priceless milestones. I photograph and film love stories, specifically wedding days and elopements. I have the ability to catch people in the act of being themselves. By providing a thrilling experience through movement based poses or interactive prompts, I am able to break down insecurity barriers for cameras and help people love the way they look. I elevate their memories by bringing joyful and enthusiastic energy to the creative space which leads to more emotive imagery. I am most excited for being able to take something as intimate and scary as having professional photos captured and making it fun.
The photography business wouldn’t be what it is today without both myself and my business partner Alex constantly asking ourselves, “How are we making people feel?” We would try prompts, poses, guided movements and would constantly refine our process based on experiences and feedback. We know our business will never be perfect but it will always be better than it was yesterday.
The process was challenging and heartbreaking. Making mistakes in our line of work comes at a high cost. For most people, they will have one wedding day. One day to experience all of their favorite people in one space celebrating their love story. You can’t request for the bride + groom to share a second first kiss, ask their mother to weep again as she adorns her baby girl with a family heirloom, or try to recreate the tender embraces after a father walks his daughter down the aisle. Missing the moments or making a mistake means a tangible memory doesn’t exist for our people.
The best way we overcame the challenge of that daunting pressure was to practice what matters most and invest in the proper gear. Becoming adroit in camera settings gifted us the confidence to adapt with the constantly changing lighting conditions and situational circumstances. Investing in the best gear allowed us to provide the best possible product and experience to our customers.
A constant theme that has surfaced over our time in business has been the importance of celebrating success. I love and need to be a goal driven person. Having an aspiration in the forefront of my mind gives me life and purpose. However, there is a delicate balance of reaching higher while recognizing how far I have climbed. I have continued to refine my skill of “sitting with my success”. It has become such an essential piece of the puzzle to take the step back and reminisce on, “the days when this was just a dream.” It makes it a lot easier to go sleep at night knowing that I am doing enough.
I want the world to know that I am always exactly where I am supposed to be. I was dealt a harsh deck of cards in the game of life and the adversity has gifted me the perspective to smile at the plate of adversity in every day. Chasing Sunsets has gifted me the opportunity to define who I want to be, how I want to influence those around me, and to build a business I am proud of.
Our brand and success is only possible because of years of extraneous work and our obsession to succeed. Alex and I started with the broken pieces of my failed dream and built a legacy. Failure wasn’t an option. And now, just a three years later, we live every day with intention and abundance.
I believe in the notion that we must follow our intuition and trust the Universe. If there is something you desire deeply to do for work, pursue it passionately. Demand the Universe to guide you on that journey to your ultimate self.
It will be difficult. Like any investment it will take time to feel the rewards and see the tangible results. But no matter what day you are in on that journey, you are progressing. The hardest part will always be the beginning. So start! Jump right in, learn from your mistakes and celebrate the accomplishments along the way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The human I have the most profound gratitude for is my husband Alex Hall. I started and failed a photography business in 2017. At the time, I was convinced I could do anything. The reality and struggles of starting a business humbled me. After realizing how passionate and driven I was to make the entrepreneurial dream come true, Alex challenged me to change the way I was thinking about it. Instead of feeling entitled to business, he immediately taught me the concept that I needed to earn every customer. In business, your customer owes you nothing. They are choosing who they are investing in, it is never a given. Once you are lucky enough to have them, it becomes your responsibility to create a raving fan. By shifting my mindset, Alex taught me the importance of fueling my tanks with gratitude. This meant celebrating what was thriving and learning from my mistakes.
Alex joined me in the adventure of becoming a full time photographer and now videographer. Together, we have built a 6 figure wedding content creating business. When people think of Chasing Sunsets Photo + Film, they see both of us. We are synonymous with our brand.
Through the last three years in business, Alex has transformed the way we look at growth. With his insatiable thirst for knowledge and constant drive to do things the right way, we have been able to expand and learn new skills that increased our revenue while building credibility in the industry.
With Alex at my side every step of this journey, I have learned to do business fearlessly. Because of his dedicated partnership, I have been able to take risks, learn new things, travel to new places, and measure myself against who I was yesterday and to find peace with comparing my journey to my industry peers.
I never could have imagined the business and brand we have built together. Not even in my wildest dreams. I owe all of my success to Alex. He taught me how to swim when I was drowning, helped me see the light in the darkness, and constantly challenges the way I celebrate my accomplishments.
