We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Lorraine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always been a creative person. Ever since I can remember I was coloring, painting, singing, dancing, all of it. In the 6th grade, I discovered my love for photography – That’s when I decided I wanted to be a photographer when I grew up. In my case, I found my life’s passion pretty early, so it just made sense for me to pursue a creative career. I’ve worked almost every kind of photography job since I was 18. Finally was able to start my own photography business after several years of working for other people.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of the things I am most proud of is my stubbornness, or my ambition – as one of my friends likes to remind me. I refuse to work anything other than photography jobs. I started my career just working at one of those mall photography studios, photographing children and families for a commission. Quickly learned that I was not a sales person, no matter how beautiful the images turned out. Eventually made my way to photographing weddings, couples, and high school seniors for another company. Then worked for a traffic camera company as an image specialist, ensuring those annoying cameras were always at the correct settings. All throughout this time working for other people, I was starting my own photo business. Getting any shoots I could under my belt. A lot of free ones, but a few paid as well. Getting started was not easy, but my ambition kept (and keeps) me going. I learned that I love to shoot fashion and commercial photography more than anything. Working with a team of models, makeup artists, and creative directors to bring visions to life makes my soul happy. Today I work with several different brands to market their products creating visual stories that speak to their audiences.
One thing I want people to know, and to remember, is that you just can’t give up. You have to keep shooting, networking, and putting yourself out there.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite places is Giant Coffee off of McDowell and Central. Their coffee is delicious and the atmosphere is really chill. Great place to sit and chat with friends or to work on your laptop. For dinner and drinks, I love going to Hanny’s in downtown. Yes, the place with the creepy dolls in the basement. Every time I’m there i make sure to visit them and make a wish by tossing a coin their way. I think they like the offerings. Hanny’s also has a great selection of cocktails. Speaking of, the Rose Garden is a fabulous place for really pretty craft cocktails. It feels very girly to me and makes me feel like I’m enjoying a drink in a fairytale.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am so grateful that I cannot narrow this down to just one person. There have been many in my life that have supported me throughout my career. I know this sounds cliche, but my friends and family have been huge supporters for me. I’m constantly talking about the next shoot I have, or some creative idea I want to work on and they all just smile, nod, and let me ramble on. It’s greatly appreciated. If I didn’t have the support of the people closest to me, I know for a fact I wouldn’t be where I am today.
