We had the good fortune of connecting with Caden Nemoff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caden, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
Growing up with an Asian parent made me prioritize school growing up, so when I told her that I wasn’t going to finish college to pursue my professional pickleball dream, it was heart breaking for her. As someone who loves their mom as much as I do, seeing her disappointment was heart wrenching for me but I didn’t want to look back at my life with any what ifs.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a touring professional pickleball player, and if you told me ten years ago that pickleball was my livelihood, I’d probably ask you where you buy your drugs from. But in all seriousness.. not having a paddle/racket background made pickleball very difficult for me when I initially started. I’m fortunately fairly athletic, but I felt like a noob when I first started. It took me years to perfect shots, and even when I felt I perfected it, I had to eventually tweak things again to make it even better. As someone who loves to win as well, it’s hard to work on things and win at the same time. We really do have to move backwards sometimes, but when we do reward is that much better.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Sedona, I don’t make it out there enough.. but I also love Scottsdale and Chandler and those are two places I go to very often. I would definitely be showing them all the amazing places I get to practice and train out here, while eating Mexican food at my favorite spot, Taco Boys. I love any types of Asian food, but I can’t lie.. Chinese and Japanese places have been hard to find. I am from San Francisco though so I am a tough critic.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents deserve all the credit, they did their best to raise a good man.. and I take everything that I’ve learned from them and use it in this BIG world with people who want to do nothing but rip you apart. I’ve learned the things that they do well that I try to implement into my life, and I try to learn from their mistakes as well. Nobody is perfect, but my mom and dad were perfect parents.. and that’s all I can really ask for.
