We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlie Doley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carlie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
During my senior year of high school I decided I wanted to go to school for fashion, and up until then I had always been undecided. Fortunately my school offered wearable art and textile classes, where I began my journey. Although I had always loved fashion, many had told me I would not be able to make a career out of it. However, growing up it was the only thing that ever really felt right to me in this sense, which is why I’ve stuck with it. I will thank my art teachers for the rest of time, without them I may not be where I am today.
I am continuing to pursue an artistic and creative career as it is where I truly thrive the most. It is important for me to work in environments where I feel truly passionate about what I am doing. My love for fashion and styling continues to grow everyday, and it won’t be stopping anytime soon.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My favorite part of fashion is styling! Whether it’s editorial, runway, commercial, or wardrobe, I’m your gal! I’m always looking to expand my styling range as well. I’ve nurtured and grown my talent the past few years throughout my time at Arizona State University, where I initially started styling for StyleLine Magazine. Since I started I’ve styled countless looks for photoshoots, magazines, brands, and more, including styling for Tempe Fashion Week! I also offer personal styling and shopping services and love to up-cycle old garments into new pieces for clients as well, and in my free time! It is important to me to be mindful and involve sustainability in everything that I do. Trend forecasting is also something I feel very passionate about, and would love to have a career in as well.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you’re ever visiting Phoenix I would definitely check out downtown! There are plenty of amazing places to eat and drink. I also highly recommend checking out the Phoenix Art Museum, all of the beautiful hiking trails, cool vintage shops, and more! If your visit is during the first Friday of the month you need to head downtown for “First Friday”. Whether you’re hanging out with your friends or selling your products, art, whatever it may be to others, this community always comes together every month to support each other and have a great time!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am dedicating this shout out to my parents! Without you two none of this would be possible, and I am so unbelievably grateful for you two everyday. Thank you for always supporting me and being my biggest fans. Love you!
