We had the good fortune of connecting with Carmen Hamerski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carmen, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I became a licensed esthetician in 1995 at the age of 38. At the time, I worked in the legal industry as a litigation paralegal and law office manager. After years of experiencing skin problems, cystic acne, hyperpigmentation, and numerous visits to doctors in my area without success, I visited a very knowledgeable esthetician that cleared my skin. I was so excited! I was motivated to leave my profession and go to beauty school and obtain my esthetics license. I wanted to help others look and feel their best! By the way, my skin looks better now, at the age of 66, than it did at 38.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m so excited that after 28 years of working in the esthetics industry as a hands-on esthetician, skincare educator, spa consultant, spa owner, and esthetics clinic owner, I’m able to put all of that training, experience and knowledge into my very own medical -grade skincare line. Carmenique Beauty Skincare is the culmination of almost 3 decades of work in my profession. I worked with an outstanding lab and some of the most respected chemists in the nation. While they mostly manufacture products for dermatologists and plastic surgeons, I’m honored and humbled at their willingness to work with me, based on my history and reputation.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to some of my favorite spots such as:

1. Musical Instruments Museum;
2. Desert Botanical Garden;
3. Old Town Scottsdale;
4. Cave Creek Frontier Town;
5. Butterfly Wonderland (I love butterflies—hence my butterfly logo on my products);
6. Depending on time of year, maybe hike some of the beautiful trails.

To eat:

1. Gertrude’s Restaurant inside the Botanical Garden;
2. Pizzería Blanco in Camelback. All of my friends love pizza;
3. Tontos Bar & Grill;
4. Sicilian Butcher;
5. Breakfast at Butter’s.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to dedicate my shoutout to both my husband, Brian Hamerski, and Pastor Tawnya Johnson of Desert Hills Community Church, our church. Pastor Tawnya Johnson motivated me to open my skincare clinic after I relocated from Los Ángeles to Phoenix. I was hesitant to do so, as I was already 60 years old and wasn’t sure it would be successful. She told me that she would support my business and encourage the members of our church to do so as well. Some of my first clients were some of the members of our church. I took a chance, and Carmenique Beauty & Wellness took off almost immediately!

My husband, Brian, deserves credit for his constant support of everything I do! In truth, he’s the reason behind the success of our business. He’s a retired aerospace electrical engineer that now works for Carmenique Beauty. He’s the Operations Manager—I could not do what I love to do, and help as many people as I do, without his knowledge, enthusiasm, energy and support.
