Meet Carrie Marill | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carrie Marill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carrie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
If it works for you and you have the grit and tenacity to roll with the highs n lows I wouldn’t have it any other way. I know it comes with a hefty price at times of not having the kind of security working for someone else might have and that can be scary. It’s not easy and sometimes I work insane hours – up at 3 am to get projects finished before the kids wake up – I’m wired like that. I knew early on after working many customer service jobs and at museums I wanted a different daily routine – one in which I couldn’t wait to get to work each day!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is my life and my life is my work – yes a walking artist cliche but it’s true. I am all the things that make up my work – from my paintings to my jewelry to my home and how I dress they all talk to one together – I love looking at color and pattern – they are the touchstones of my life. I seek them out and filter them into my visual language and then create more beauty for the world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m not sure I’m the best person to ask on this one… since having children our routines have changed and the city has changed so much in 9 years I don’t Know if I’ve experienced a quarter of what life here now has to offer! That being said my standard eats are all of Upward projects restaurants and the Parlor. I’m also a serious seeker of tasty Asian food (Happy Bao in Mesa) Down home Mexican Food (Carolinas) and delicious juices & smoothies (Kaleidoscope) I’d visit any one of the surrounding mountain ranges for some bird watching and mountain climbing, check out all the museums especially the Heard, 3rd Friday’s for a less crowded look at local galleries and make the trip to ArcoSanti & the gem & mineral show in Tucson 💓
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out is to my education, travel and books. I am a sponge of information – constantly exposing myself to new images, people and experiences and it’s fun to watch how they work their ways into my work. My earliest lens into the world has been going to the library sitting on the floor and pulling books down and looking, always looking. I’m a believer in absorption 🙂
