We had the good fortune of connecting with Clara Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Clara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I worked for several years behind a coffee bar, I loved what I was doing there, every single morning I felt happy and motivated to go to work, I enjoyed being a barista and talking to others, I made a lot amazing connections and after leaving my job during the pandemic make me realized that crafting coffee/drinks been a Barista was meant for me, I was at home and I felt like I was missing something in my daily life. I doubted myself to much of being capable to start my own business and during pandemic time, my husband, my family and my friend(s) kept insisting me to start a business of what I was good at! but it wasn’t until September of last year (2021) when I decided to take the leap of faith, and take the risk to start my business/brand.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
First of all there’s a lot good coffees out there, but what set us apart from others we’re a Mexican coffee brand, local and freshly roasted here in Arizona, our coffee is infused with flavors like churro, horchata, chocolate, mazapan, cafe de olla (spiced mexican coffee), these are our most popular and best sellers in the market.
Mis Raices wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for you all, thanks to all the amazing people who has supported us since day one!
It hasn’t been easy at all, but I can’t complain about it because everything happens for a reason; wanting to showcase/display my coffee bags at retail local stores I’ve learned that when one door closes 2 or 3 will open the opportunity when it’s the right time.
Mis Raices was created with the intention and mission of having You all delighting a delicious coffee from my Mexico lindo y querido (beloved and beautiful Mexico). If you go to any retail store to buy a bag of coffee you see a lot variety of Europan, African or even South American coffee, you hardly find Fresh roasted Mexican (Central American) coffee at stores.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them (friends or family) to colados to eat some crepes, to fair trade cafe to drink coffee (I love the atmosphere there), there’s a lot good places, but the most important would be support local.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband for always supporting my craziness, my daughter who’s my right hand at events, my family, my friends, all the event’s organizers and of course all our clients!
