We had the good fortune of connecting with Colleen Montague and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Colleen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I began to think about creating what is now Moissy Fine Jewelry. I wanted to offer to clients not only a product of value, but a product that would ADD value.
I myself had experience with the lab crafted gemstone Moissanite, because I had been wearing it for years. The product over the years had remained as beautiful as the day I had bought it, and continued to impress me after such a long period of wearing my moissanite ring. I realized this product was valuable and sustainable. The product itself had added value to my own life, as it was my engagement ring from my husband, which was one of my most prized possessions.
When I began to curate my own business, I wanted everyone to experience Moissanite the way I had, and wanted to introduce a no pressure, high value shopping experience for the client.
Creating a business plan was key in determining the business mission, orchestrating how to effectively launch based on key factors like demographics and market evaluations. A business plan is your very own blueprint.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My love for jewelry is authentic, and my ability to create jewelry is not a skill I had the opportunity to learn in school. A lot of my knowledge is from trial and error, research, and working closely side by side with my veteran artisans.
The journey has been long, tiring and exciting and it’s not over yet. We have accomplished so much over the last 3 years. We have opened 3 beautiful showrooms . 2 showrooms located in Canada, and 1 location is Arizona. We continue to expand and are working on our 4th showroom, and second USA location currently under construction.
I have to say we are really proud of what we have accomplished this far. The highlight of this journey was being featured on the cover of Canada’s Number One Jewelry Magazine . Canadian Jeweller Magazine
As we continue to grow as a company , we also continue to grow as people. I’ve learnt that you don’t have to be the best, smartest, fastest at anything. You simply need to be authentic and true to your vision. People are attracted and drawn to the organic truth of your business. That will bring you success.
I want people to know that you are not to small to make a difference. I was recognised among my peers as being a trendsetter for the otherwise mundane industry that hasn’t changed in decades.
We are introducing the new generation of engagement rings, and changing how couples shop for their forever piece.
So don’t be afraid to be different and true to your mission.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are going to definitely get some great food and drinks and Olive and Ivy, Take in some sightseeing Sedona, and great shopping at San Tan Village and Scottsdale Fashion Centre
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to shout out my business and life partner Lloyd Montague.
Having a good partnership is invaluable when launching a business. Choosing a strategic partner that have strong skills in areas that you may not be strong is pertinent in being successful.
Lloyd was able to take on a lot of the back end responsibilities which created space for me to focus on my real love which was jewelry design, and the showroom experience.
So SHOUTOUT! to Lloyd!
