Meet Courtney Wells | Pizzaiola & Mother

We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Wells and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The answer to this question is simple- the most important factor behind succeeding is having grit. I have adapted to balancing my work and home life but that doesn’t mean it comes easy all the time. You really need the ability to persevere through the long hours, and long days, but that drive and hunger for success comes naturally when I have a passion for something.

What should our readers know about your business?
I made the biggest investment in business that I have ever made, unknowingly that we were about to get hit with the COVID-19 Pandemic a month later. All my starter events were cancelled, I mean we all know how the world was at that time.. My dreams were crushed, how was I going to run a food truck if most people didn’t even want to go outside? That feeling of “Wow, I may have just wasted so much money” got my head in gear. I started reaching out to neighborhoods to set up a pizza delivery service where I would set up a pre order link for the neighborhood and drop their order off at their door. I was sort of like the ice cream truck driving around. I just so badly wanted people to taste my pizza! My “delivery service” was passed around on Facebook, etc. and as things started opening back up and events began again, my business took off! I still to this day do events at the same neighborhoods where it all started.
Over the last year I have perfected my dough recipe, and I have zoned in on creating a unique menu that you can’t find at your typical pizza shop. Let’s be honest, cooking in front of a live flame with the oven temping around 800 degrees in Arizona, is brutal. But I LOVE IT. I love sharing my passion to others in the expression of pizza. I make every single pizza made to order and personal to the customer.
The success of my business is important to me not just because it’s a passion of mine, but because I want to set an example for my boys, that they grow up knowing that as long has you remain humble and have grit, anything they set their mind to is possible.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Pack your bag bestie, we are going to Sedona! From the beautiful views, great hiking spots, to all of the cool local shops you can visit. I would totally spend a week in Sedona. I’ve been on many off road tours there to see the beautiful red rock. I love horseback riding through the trails. Or not feeling so outdoorsy? Dont worry they have a beautiful spa to go relax. Sedona is a place where you can find relaxation and adventure all in one place without having to drive far from the valley. Its the perfect little getaway spot for me.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
You can only imagine how busy being a single mom, owning a business, and managing a restaurant full time is. I’m crazy I know! But I absolutely could not do it without my tribe. A big thank you to my biggest supporters, my parents Mike and Traci for loving on my babies when I cannot, my best friend Emily for always being there for me whether its in my personal life or jumping on the pizza truck to help me, and thank you to all of my amazing customers for constantly supporting my small business. I could not do it without you all!
