Meet Cydnee Pedler | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cydnee Pedler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cydnee, how does your business help the community?
Upcycling is something I am very passionate about. To me it’s taking something that has been discarded and giving it a new reason to shine.
My upcycling item of choice is glass bottles, specifically wine and beer bottles.
Did you know that around 36 BILLION bottles of wine are consumed each year?
That’s also 36 BILLION corks that are made as well!
We also can’t forget about the 113 BILLION bottles of beer that are also made every year.
It’s crazy to think only a fraction of those bottles are able to be recycled each year.
With so many glass bottles that are being discarded I decided to take on a personal challenge years ago!
I want to make those bottles reusable in different ways, so that we can re-incorporate them into our everyday life.
So instead of making more we reuse the glass therefore cutting down on adding items into the already full landfills.
Here at The Treasured Bottle, I want to create a new unique way to breathe life back into the glass.
The possibilities are absolutely endless!
That aspect is very important to me reusing the glass in such a way it now becomes something you use and rely on everyday.
My goal is to create my art in such a way that not only am I putting a little bit of myself into, but a little bit of my clients in it as well.
All the clients I have worked with have always had amazing ideas and I do my best to meet those expectations. It’s important to bring those ideas to light for them. I enjoy making things that touch others’ hearts and make them smile.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It all started with a single moment in time when I had stopped to shop for a bottle of wine one evening. After picking up this beautiful red wine the shape of the bottle caught my eye. Along with its beautifully designed label and unique colored glass. It then occurred to me that soon I would be throwing it away without a second thought. It was a shame that something so pretty would be discarded.
Then I thought how can I make others see the same beauty that I see beneath this beautiful bottle of wine? There began my upcycling journey as I know it today.
I would be lying if I said it was easy. It has definitely been a challenge especially because I had to teach myself everything. So in the beginning, there was TONS of research along with a lot of trial and error.
I started cutting bottles out of my kitchen sink and found my way to an industrial saw. I was very blessed to have many people that donated their used bottles to me so that I was able to practice and create. However this past year or so it’s been getting harder and harder to find people willing to save or donate their bottles.
I never thought I would run into that type of problem, so when clients of mine ask for a specific type of glass it can be very hard to track down.
I specialize in drinkware made from repurposed liquor bottles, I am the best known for my Rose Glasses, whiskey glasses, and my personal favorite mini shot glasses.
My craft always challenges me to use every part of the bottle that I can. My art includes cork magnets, resin cork coasters, and custom drinkware sets. I am also starting a video project called bottle history. Its videos on some facts about some of the famous bottles we know today and how they come to be.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Phoenix, Arizona has been my home my whole life, I enjoy every part of this state it gives so much beauty all year round. The outstanding sunrises and sunsets, the way the light hits the mountains and gives off such brilliant colors. It always seems to give off a calming vibe.
I’m sure I can speak for many that live in this state the only drawback is the incredibly hot summers. However, even at 115 degrees we all still manage a way to have fun and stays cool.
We have many stunning mountain areas and hiking trails all over Arizona. There is always camelback mountain the view at the top is totally worth the hike. Please though be safe bring water. Other trails are Sunrise in Scottsdale and one of my personal favorites Adero canyon trail in Fountain Hills.
As far as restaurants phoenix has much to offer. If you’re in the mood for Asian food Mekong Plaza has some of the best to offer. Many restaurants and food market all in one. Mexican restaurants are everywhere but one of my favorites is El Encanto in Fountain Hills. I love the green chili burrito enchilada style. If you’re in the mood for good coffee and breakfast, be sure to check out Sipp’s in Fountain Hills. Their signature drink the Malibu and veggie sandwich is my go to meal.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To be very honest I owe so much of who I am today as an artist to the people who believed in me to create something different. I was always given creative freedom whenever asked to make something. People trusted me as an artist and my creative ideas that they knew I would bring. Even when I had any doubts as many of us do each and every one of my clients always cheered me on.
I realized early on that if I was able to have even just a little bit of creative freedom when making a custom piece my art would shine so much brighter.
Not only do I have so much love for all my clients, but my family and friends as well.
They have always been there for me when I need any advice or to just to bounce some ideas around.
I’m so grateful to all of them who continue to support me.
I owe a very special thank you to Christoph Rogalla from “Roguecandleco.”
At the very start of my journey years ago I had so many questions and I came across his work one late evening. I followed him for some time after finally mustering up the courage to message him. Chris was nice enough to answer any questions I had about glass, bottles or really anything for that matter. He was a state away, but was and always has been a friend to me as well as supporting my art. He shares his struggles and triumphs with everyone hoping to encourage others to follow their own dreams. So, I owe a lot to him.
I also want to take a minute to thank every single person who has donated their empty bottles to me, so that I can create such beautiful pieces. The whole point of “The treasured Bottle” is to reuse what was already used. So, it is thanks to so many who have and who continue to donate to me that I can keep doing what I’m doing.
