We had the good fortune of connecting with Dakota Overstreet and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dakota, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
A quote I frequently say to myself is “I’m the best macaron baker ever”. This is something my daughter frequently says to me and it helps me the most on days when I feel overwhelmed with my workload or if my baking isn’t coming out right. It helps me remember how my daughter sees me so I should try and see myself from that point of view.

I’m most excited to see where this business endeavor takes me and my family. I never thought I’d have the following and customers I currently have so I’m excited to see where we will be a year from now. I started baking Macarons because my husband and I were getting married and wanted them for our wedding, he encouraged me to try it out and Pretty Sweet Macs was born. It definitely wasn’t easy, I didn’t realize how much money you have to first put into the business before making any sort of profit. A lesson I learned along the way is setting boundaries, by that I mean sticking to my orders and not trying to constantly squeeze orders in so I’m able to spend time with my family. I’d love for everyone to know that any contribution to my business whether it’s a follow, sharing my post or purchasing it’s all going back to my customers and my family!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Stacks and 1989 Bakehouse would be my first two stops! They’re the best for coffee and matcha as well as baked goods. I’d also go to Chez Peachy, I’ve known Christa since 2021 at her Mother’s Day pop up in the Tucson mall and have supported her since, she is the sweetest and her matcha is unmatched! Food wise anywhere Downtown Tucson, it is phenomenal!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have a few I would like to shoutout, first being my husband Tyler. He gave me the strength and courage to even try baking macarons and on days when things aren’t going right he’s the sensible one to help me figure everything out. Secondly I would love to shout out Rose from the 1989 Bakehouse, for believing in me and my macs. Giving us a place to sell and just being such a sweet and kind person to my business and family.
