We had the good fortune of connecting with Dari and Olah Nichols and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dari and Olah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting our business was more like an awakening of sorts. I planned my first event in second grade. Ever since then I had been planning, executing and managing events through out my childhood and into adulthood. In all of the industries I’ve ever worked in over my lifetime, I’ve always been the life of the party and have brought that energy to the rooms and spaces I’ve occupied. I’ve always added a balloon, glitter, confetti or a rose petal to an occasion. The defining moment for our company was the day I woke up, looked over at my husband and said. “maybe we should do this as a business instead of for free.” That was the day Alyrik’s Castle Event Planning Services was officially born.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are family owned which makes us a premier choice in the industry because we treat each and every client like family. We use a “five-senses approach” to make sure that everything that guests taste, touch, see, smell, hear and experience is in keeping with our client’s vision. We provide 5 star services to each family member client regardless of the type or size of the event and we give every opportunity a personal touch. In addition, we offer customized options and packages. We take every opportunity to give back to our community as often as we can and these are gifts that set us apart from others in our industry. We are most proud of our growth in the wedding industry. It was really difficult to transition from planning events for free to “doing business.” We lost quite a few friends and family members in the transition. Many said we would fail. It was not easy! I used to pray for one event per month and now we are booking 12 months in advance. When people said we couldn’t, we worked harder and continued to give back. We made many sacrifices. Our very first Alyrik’s Castle wedding was 15 hours, $500 and a 10% military discount. I worked it by myself because we couldn’t afford to send to executives to a wedding for $450. To put sprinkles on the cupcake, there was a 100% chance of rain that day and we were scheduled for a garden ceremony. Needless to say, I ran the wedding in the rain, almost flawlessly, To our surprise, the wedding was published in a wedding magazine! Hard work, persistence and sacrifice pays off. I want the world to know Alyrik’s Castle is force in the event industry. We are inspired by love and we always deliver excellence.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my guest to the AZ Flower Market, Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles, Manuel’s Mexican Restaurant & Cantina, Harbor Seafood Cajun House, Phoenix Zoo, George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center, Standup Live, Chaparral Park (Fishing), Encanto Park and Bowling.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We give thanks to God first and foremost for the strength to be resilient in a competitive industry, the guidance to make sound decisions and the sense to be humble when challenged. The love of our mothers keeps us grounded as they taught us we can do anything we set our minds to do and to believe in ourselves. Lastly, Our business is inspired by our seventh grandchild Alyrik Nichols. She was born premature and passed away at 2 years old. She lights our lives with love and our businesses foundation is built on that very premise, LOVE. We are Alyrik’s Castle!
