We had the good fortune of connecting with Darlene Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Darlene, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Building neighborhood kinship, meaning, my concern and well-being for my neighbors is equivalent to my family. I say that because we must be connected beyond problem resolution models. Please after we resolve the problem/or issue then we return to our own space and never connect until there is another problem. But if we connect because we want a better life for everyone then we build a lasting connection that leads us to taking care of each other
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been in mental health for almost three decades. I’ve worked with men, women, youth, families and areas of restoration. Whether that be case managing them to help them locate basic resources for living or connecting them what family support systems. I have a bachelor’s in sociology and took 2 years of nursing at mace Community College. I also have a Mental Health life coaching certification from Lighthouse University. And 2021 open my life coaching business call Prominent Women (PM). The heart of PM is have or learn to have a healthy relationship with yourself. The focus is learning who you are and how to love that person and how to keep that person safe. PM’s motto is a healthy you a healthy View. And out of that CLA was birth and many other things that God is now leading me to do and the Heart of all this is restoration. Was it easy no because when you sent on any Journey the journey is about you first meaning if I am a relationship life coach who helps the soul heal I had to go on a journey of healing of my soul. What I’ve learned along the way is to do the work anything that’s worth having discovering uncovering implementing creating it’s going to be work connected to it and it’s not going to be easy work but it’s worth it. Sometimes you just got to put your head down and just do the work maybe years before you see the results but it’s worth it. I want the world to know that we’re better together than separate it and that there is a way to connect and respect where that person is coming from on the other side of the table and be involved in helping of helping that person on the other side of the table.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love nature so it’s saying that we we would go hiking. But not a lot of my friends like hiking they’re like oh no we’re not going in that mountain with those snakes. But I love to hike South Mountain and then stand or sit on the rocks and there’s a cool breeze close my eyes and but the wind minister to me. Is so peaceful. And they’re not a lot in me like probably one of the most homebodies in the world. But if I had to I would love to go to a jazz concert downtown and there’s also vegan restaurant called vegan house off of Adams love that place. I probably need to find some friends to hang out what because that’s that’s my highlight. I’m so focused right now on expanding this vision visions that include a healthy human being and a healthy neighborhood and a healthy community. I’m boring LOL
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thomas Clairborn, Co-Coordinator of Community Leadership Alliance (CLA) and Visionary Coach. Thomas helpful cla’s vision out of me he also helps mistake linear instead of overlapping I give an areas that it would work in but it’s not called to be in. My sister Gertrude Jackson teaching me how to see beyond what people say I have a tendency to hippie love and not check out what’s possibly behind a person’s motive of connecting with me. Newfound respect for Dr Martin Luther King and his prophetic vision and I’m focusing on the book Where Do We Go From Here chaos or community, just his charge or challenge to Future Generations to get outside of color and he makes this statement you know when we stop yelling black Power white power and start yelling God’s power that’s when we will see major change. And last but not least I am in love with the Lord. It is he who has given me life Beyond Myself. Using my gift of loving people and bringing people together see beyond faults and see the needs that we all have. I believe our greatest resource in which he created is one another so how do I creatively bring people to the table to see that and connect with that. That excites me
