We had the good fortune of connecting with Darrell Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darrell, how do you think about risk?
Everything for me to start my own business rolled in shortly after the pandemic restrictions started to lift. I was making $19hr to work on the phone talking to customers from home in a small closet; where I had built a small office. My mom had started a business called “Angels Over Me Estate Sales,” the risk mainly for me was quitting my job to help my mom with her new business adventure. With a lot of up’s and downs of the business I was able to see the inner workings of a business like never before! With my new found knowledge and minor investment, I would start my current business “A100 Junk Removal”

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Every great story has a beginning, whether it be great or rocky, our story is the same as many great business owners. Develop a system that caters to a need and then execute the idea. The main challenges any new entrepreneur will deal with will always be financial and motivation to keep going. Your first month could be your best month of the year, while the rest isn’t so good. Life and business have the same commonalities, you will deal with some adversity; and how you overcome it, is the difference between sink or swim. A100 Junk Removal is a piece of mind, call us first before anyone else, because of our efficiency, affordability and our sense of respect for you and yours. Only lesson to be learned from owning a business, is discipline and accountability.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I think places in the city, I think of night life and as a business owner, especially one on his first year; they don’t find the time to be able to go out and celebrate much. My idea of nightlife will 100% be dated! But with that said if you haven’t tried “Compass” restaurant downtown where you can eat and have an amazing view of the city, then you are missing out!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First of all I would always send a shoutout to God first! Especially for sending such a loving and devoted woman like my mother and that will always be my second shoutout. God, my mother and my Gorgeous wife. Those are the secret ingredients to the success of my life and business.
