We had the good fortune of connecting with David Colson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Over time, especially through the recent pandemic, my work life balance has shifted dramatically. For a long time I identified myself with my work, often at the expense of personal life balance. Over the last several years I have reprioritized work life balance to place personal health – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual – ahead of work, followed by personal relationships.
In March 2022 I consciously decided to leave my full time corporate job to work part time and focus on personal goals I have, including climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and planning future treks to the southwest United States as well as international treks.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I often look at my resume in awe of the unconventional path my professional life has taken. Retail clerk, park ranger, political consultant and fundraiser, nonprofit volunteer, wind energy developer, CPG sales and operations, software implementation. All of those mixed and varied roles at different times performed at a high level. All with the educational backdrop of public schools, a liberal arts degree, and two business degrees.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Downtown tour of Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale including visits to Papago Park, Tempe Town Lake, Botanical Gardens, Phoenix Museum of Art. Local dining for lunch and dinner in Old Scottsdale. Perhaps a round of golf and spa treatment at Wigwam.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The shoutout for credit and recognition has to be to my family – mom, dad, sisters, brothers, niece, and nephew. They encourage me to chase my dreams and they inspire me in what they pursue.
