We had the good fortune of connecting with Debora Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Debora, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I grew up in a dysfunctional home. My only escape from my reality was when I would read books from my school’s library. I would imagine having the perfect life and going on exciting adventures like the characters in the stories. Once I became an adult, I published my own books and eventually started a publishing company to assist others who don’t know where to start with writing a book. I just want to assist people from all walks of life in telling their unique stories.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Most book publishing companies are only interested in cookie-cutter success stories. They are afraid to give rejects, ex-cons, or other minority races and demographics a chance to tell their stories. Readers want to hear from people who look and live like them. That’s who they identify with. Bora Media is an outlet for ex-outcasts who are looking to change someone’s life for the better by sharing how they overcame their struggles and difficult experiences. Create a table if there is no room at the other ones.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I suggest an outdoor outing to ride through the desert on ATVs. I would clean up and go get drinks from Brunch & Sip. Don’t forget to get some juicy seafood from Krazy Kajun. The Brunch House has the best grits in town! Phoenix is full of food and adventure!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m grateful for every author that has trusted me with their intellectual property long enough for me to transform it from their thoughts to a tangible product. I appreciate every person who has read any of my published works. It’s humbling.
