Meet Deena Ross | A/E/C Marketing Consultant and Owner of Ross Consultants, LLC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Deena Ross and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deena, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Writing proposals and providing marketing support to the construction community allows opportunities for more contractors, including small and minority-owned businesses. Helping emerging contractors to break into the market and win a project means the community is receiving better value for their tax dollars. Many of our roads, parks, and government buildings are constructed through a system that selects contractors based on qualifications. Countless qualified contractors cannot participate in these projects only because they cannot prepare their qualifications statements with their internal staff. I work closely with these firms to showcase their capabilities so that they can compete with larger, more established businesses. More competition in this market equates to higher construction quality and enhanced value for all project stakeholders, especially the community.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
There are a lot of marketing firms, but what sets mine apart is my industry knowledge and ability to lead or assist in strategy sessions. Many marketing firms will simply plug in provided content and will not read and edit to ensure there is a winning theme. Over the years, I have learned how to be assertive and feel comfortable expressing myself when I think changes are necessary. I am proud of my success rate, and I attribute that to being able to present my client’s talents in a way that is concise and easily understood. I genuinely enjoy working with teams that are passionate about their project pursuits and collaborating with them to make their battle cry heard in every section of their proposal.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love being outside, spending time with my friends and family, and enjoying great food and drinks. So many restaurants in the valley have spectacular views and patio dining options. As soon as the weather allows, I love to hike with friends and grab a drink at one of the many spots that offer dog-friendly patios, like O.H.S.O. Some of my favorite Phoenix-area hiking spots are Tom’s Thumb in the McDowell Mountains and Pinnacle Peak Park. I also love to drive a few hours north to ski or just get out of the heat. The wineries in southern and northern Arizona have fantastic tasting rooms, but the Verde Valley is my preferred place to enjoy great wine in a beautiful setting. Page Springs and DA Ranch are two of my favorite spots in the area, with plenty of space outside.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur. My parents and family were always supportive, but my dad especially gave me the tools to succeed. From a very young age, he allowed me to work as his assistant, where I learned a lot about the construction industry and running a business. I would not be where I am today without his guidance and encouragement.
