Hi Desiree Schier & Daniel Kopeinik, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When I think about wependio, the whole project is risky. When you start a project, launch a product or even change something far reaching in your life, you just take the risk. And if you are not willing to, then you have to rethink your plan. With every step we took, we knew we were doing the right thing. Because even when we fail, we can lean form that and continue growing. It’s an important thing in life to fail sometimes, because that brings you back down to earth. It is then only a matter of finding a solution. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that there’s a solution to every problem.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
wependio is a social media for travelers, that combines the inspiration of Instagram with the benefits of a search engine. What does that mean exactly? We’ve developed an app to make travel planning easier and manage the overflow of offers. Anyone planning to book a trip will find everything under one roof at wependio, from insider tips to booking accommodations or activities and subsequent reflection. All with a community of travelers in the background. With a visualization of the itinerary on a digital world map, every user can share their travels. But that’s not the only place where we’re trying to create something special. Because as I’m sure you know, smaller tourism businesses often can’t get started with social media marketing. It’s too complicated, the resources are lacking, it’s too time-consuming or too expensive. That’s where we want to support.
We differ in that we try to bring all topics related to travel on one platform. Worldwide. This does not yet exist in this form.
Well, what’s nowadays easy? We had work sessions long until after midnight every day to come this far. There are always hurdles you just need to face them and solve them. It was never an option to give up.
I want people to see wependio as the pioneer in tourism. We will continue to develop, simplify things and not dampen the desire to travel with complicated processes, as many others do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
You know that we are from Austria, right? The whole country is a playground of mountains for adults. We are based in Innsbruck, the capital city of Tyrol. And well, let’s say it depends on the season. In winter we have incredibly great ski resorts for young and old. In Ischgl, for example, are 239 kilometers of perfectly groomed slopes. After skiing you can go to an apre ski bar to end the day. There are many hotels here that offer day spa. Nothing is better than a sauna when you can enjoy the view of the mountains around you. Innsbruck has a lovely old town and very charming bars. And of course I would travel to vienna, the most liveable city in the world according to the economist.
In summer you can go hiking and enjoy the sunrise or the sunset from the summit cross. When you are sure that the weather is good you can go up with your tent and enjoy a night under the stars. At daytime you can visit one of the lakes here, and enjoy the breathtaking views.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many people who deserve our thanks. It starts with regional institutions, which help you to orientate yourself in the start-up world and to network. Family and friends have always motivated us to go further, to realize our dreams and have always supported us. Just the fact that someone believes in your idea and in you as a person is incredibly motivating. And of course we are grateful for our investors who have recognized the value of our company and who believe in us as founders.
