We had the good fortune of connecting with Destry Phillips and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Destry, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting your own business was pretty straightforward for me. I grew up in a family of businesses, working during the summers and learning the ropes of business without even knowing it. I saw the freedoms having your own business granted you, and I wanted them. I had a hard time taking direction from my bosses in jobs after college. I knew I wanted the freedom to run my own schedule and make my own money. I never liked the idea of creating something great for someone else. I had worked on DAYNIGHT Media as a side hustle throughout college, and 1 year into my desk job after graduating I called it quits and decided to go full-time with DAYNIGHT Media, and haven’t looked back since.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is the ability to see the end goal, envision it, develop a plan to execute it, and deliver upon that. With my business degree in marketing and advertising, I feel I have a great sense of what businesses are looking for within their content, and I can deliver.

I also was gifted with a creative eye. The eye for the shot. I always felt as if I had this within me, it took a lot of looking into myself to find it and be confident enough to share it with the world. I watched and listened to a lot of motivating business, and self-help content which helped me form the building blocks of my business.

I’ve learned there is always more to learn. Never think you know it all. Information is abundant. Information is power. But I’ve also learned not to take yourself too seriously, or that can lead to dark places. Enjoy every day,

I want the world to know we all have the ability to achieve anything we set our minds to. I was the shy kid in the class with no confidence in myself. I just always knew there was something out there for me. I have big dreams. Chase your dreams. Manifest them. Develop a plan and execute it. Read the signs.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was in town I would – take them to the river and relax and ride jetskis
– ride dirtbikes in the desert
– grill up some steaks
– go for a hike
– dine out
– enjoy the peace and quiet

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shoutout to my fiance, Lauren Ashley Guerrero (soon-to-be Mrs. Phillips). Lauren and I have been together since we were in high school. From high school to a long-distance relationship in college where I started DAYNIHT Media, to leaving my full-time job to pursue DAYNIGHT Media. She has always believed and been there for me. Without her support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’d also like to thank my family for making me who I am today.
