We had the good fortune of connecting with Devon Yancey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

I’ve worked in marketing in a lot of capacities and have gotten experience from some of the best in the business. From small agencies, big agencies and in-house marketing departments. I had been taking on side marketing projects under the business name, Yancey Social, while working a full-time marketing job back in the summer of 2022. By the of February of 2023, I was experiencing some growth and wanting to expand my business. This meant fully embracing entrepreneurship and letting go of my safe full-time job and turning Yancey Social into a social media marketing agency. I had put myself in a great place to give myself the opportunity to grow Yancey Social full time and took the leap.

For anyone looking to go down the road of entrepreneurship, if you have the financial foundation to carry you and keep your business plan simple, go for it!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Yancey Social is a smaller marketing agency and we’re able to move faster than the bigger agency. Though social media is in our name, we do more than offer social media services. We also offer email marketing, paid media, photography and videography. I knew that when I started my business that just social media marketing by itself wasn’t going to cut it. As new and current clients needed additional services, I started to reach out to the best of the best that I knew in my wheelhouse to expand my services.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

I would take them to my favorite foodie spots AZ/88, La Hacienda, Forno or Hanny’s. But not before taking them to explore Downtown Phoenix to swing by the Phoenix art Museum.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe this credit to a multitude of people in my life—my supportive family, incredible friends, and remarkable co-workers who evolved into an extended family.
