Meet DJ Eupho | Disc Jockey

We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ Eupho and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DJ, how do you think about risk?
In order to gain anything you have to give up something or risk something to progress. Being comfortable is safe, you know what’s going to happen, you can calculate things a little better. Not knowing or the state of not being comfortable, leaves many to be unease. In my case, I took a risk leaving Flint, MI to come to Arizona in search of new opportunity. The risk of not knowing if I’ll be able to find a job, let alone afford to stay out here is something many people experience moving. Well as you can see things to be on the up reason being we are here today speaking.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When coming up with my DJ name I wanted to incorporate something meaningful with some thing I represent. Growing up I’ve often been reminded of the calm spirit I have and how my presence is felt in a room. This energy is often referred to as euphoria. I was constantly reminded people are usually in a better mood when I’m around. After seeing this energy transcend into djing the name made sense.
10 years ago I would no way shape or form I would have told you my life would be surrounded by music. I started djing in 2017. Growing up in a single parent household my mother made sure I stayed involved in sports and school so music was not even a thing. My dad however played piano growing up but with his absence that knowledge wasn’t necessarily passed down . It wasn’t until after my second year in college where I picked up on the art of music and the science behind it. I was currently studying psychology at the time and became so obsessed with music and everything about it.
I became so obsessed that I switch schools and major to start studying music. I received backlash from some family at first because this was the first time in their life I did something that wasn’t in their plan for me. It was tough to not receive the support I thought I would receive at first but the feeling of control I felt was unmatched.
To speed things along, I end up going through school and graduating with a degree in Music Technology from Mott Community College with Honors 2 1/2 years later. During that time I was asked to dj for the first time at a huge house party at Michigan State University. All I knew was the good party songs and to do a fade in and out and the party went great and I never looked back.
I grew predominantly listening Hip Hop, Rnb, and Pop music as a kid so I always tried to stay up to date with new tunes. With my dad’s genetics I guess the Apple wouldn’t fall too far from the tree being musically inclined. Learning the history of djing was big for me because you learn there are many kind of DJ’s. Finding out what do you want to represent and who you are is everything when it comes to your identity as a DJ. I made a promise to myself I would become a dj that everyone can enjoy because I understand the music language.
Along the way I’ve learned you can’t please everyone. When it comes to your life and your destiny, choose you. Without risk, there is no reward.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I just recently moved here to Arizona back in March and I’m still very new to the area. I do enjoy food and I recently checked out JL’s Smokehouse and it was phenomenal. On the dessert side I do enjoy Joe’s Italian Ice in Tempe. I recommend the Strawberry Lemonade Joe Lati. I’m looking for new places to visit so everyone please reach out and let me know the go to spots in the area! Also you all should check out the Michigan Marketplace is Mesa for some Michigan exclusive items.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout to the music community evolving in my hometown Flint, MI. There is a Music Renaissance going on in the city and it’s only a matter of time before more names from that city is ringing bells. I have a few featured in my first ever cypher entitled “The Eupho Cypher” streaming on YouTube. Last but not least shout out to my production team back home, The Lost Champions.
