We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Errin Weisman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Errin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I initially started my very first business, it was actually a rescue line to help myself recover from burnout as a physician. I called it “Truth Prescriptions” and I said that I was making graphics to encourage others but really it was the messages I need to absorb. As I slowly healed from burnout, I moved away from graphic design and blog writing to coaching other physicians who were experiencing burnout. Now I provide multiple layers of help for anyone currently in the throws of professional burnout from 2 different podcasts (Doctor Me First and Burntout to Badass), workbook, free monthly online classes and more.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is multi-faceted. I work as a family medicine and addiction medicine physician most of my week and sprinkle in entrepreneurship with my businesses: Doctor Me First, Burntout to Badass and Physician Coaching Alliance. Also add the work Professional Speaker, Community leader and my farm of critters and kids,

What sets me apart is that I bring my full self to each of my work spaces. I show up for people in very real ways whether that is coaching a fellow physician or checking for an ear infection.

What I’m most proud of is that despite huge challenges over the last decade, I have the most fulfillment that I’ve ever experienced.

I got to this point today through living out several mantras:
“Just take the next best step” I use this when work is overwhelming and I have hundreds of things to do. This helps me start with just one
“Enough is a decision” As a recovering perfectionist, enough can feel like underperforming or unattainable so reminding myself that I get to decide what is enough helps me set healthy limits and boundaries.
“Work is my drug. Rest is my recovery” I’m a workaholic. Though this is desired in medicine, it has just as devastating consequences as substance use. I have to regularly (and sometimes begrudgingly) stop, rest and breath.

Was this easy? Hell No! Absolutely not. But I decided that I had to pick my hard. The hard of staying stuck and miserable or the hard of trying things that were uncomfortable and unfamiliar.

I overcame challenges through learning self-compassion then allowing myself to have this compassion and relying on great support systems of friends, professionals, contractors and family.

I want the world to know: You are not alone. Burnout doesn’t define you. Your life, your calling, your pulse matters

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would bring them to Weisman Farms (forget the city)

I would pick them up from the airport and drive the hour or 2 to the farm. We would hang out with Team Weisman, eat great home cooking and play card games in the living room.

The next day, I would make them turn off their phone and get them outside. We would do the chores on the farm and with the alpaca. We would sit and watch the wind blow in the trees. We would talk about everything and nothing. Later on, we would have a campfire with smores and starlight.

The final day, I’d taking them hiking in the morning and to the lake in the afternoon experiencing it all. Continue to have great meals and wrap up with a nice soak in the hot tub with a million dollar view.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have so many shoutouts I’m not sure where even to begin! To Mr. Weisman, he has braved a lot of life’s dumpster fires with me and still continues to stay! To my friends, colleagues and staff: without you all, I’d still be a sobbing mess on the floor. To so many books: you helped me escape to other worlds while mine was rebuilding.
