We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Frank Bevacqua and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Frank, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I think there were two main factors that went into me deciding to start my own business. I wanted to do right by me, and I wanted to do right by the client. When you work for someone else, that person or company dictates a lot of things, including how much money you make and how the client or customer is served. I went out on my own because I took a bet on myself that I could serve clients better than how they were being served already. I was willing to gamble on myself that, if I could provide a superior service and take care of others, I’d be rewarded in doing so.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have been a psychologist for over a decade, and have spent many of those years specializing in helping our nation’s military Veterans. Specifically, when a Veteran is seeking VA benefits for mental health difficulties, I provide Independent Psychological Evaluations and complete Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) and Nexus Letters to help provide evidence that might bolster a Veteran’s claim with the VA.
From a clinical standpoint, I pride myself in being thorough in my information gathering, detail-oriented in my presentation of evidence, and constantly growing my own body of knowledge to provide the most expert service for anyone who seeks my help.
From a business standpoint, I pride myself in accessibility. I keep my fees on the lower end compared to others offering the same service, and I generally have more immediate availability for appointments and tend to complete Veterans’ paperwork more quickly than others. The VA benefit process can long and difficult enough for many; I want to be as effective and efficient with my piece of the process as possible.
I am a lifelong sports fan, and with the recent rise in fame and success of the Savannah Bananas baseball team, I’ve looked more and more into how they grew to what they are today. I think their motto, “Fans First,” is a great philosophy for any business to emulate. I constantly try to put myself in my client’s shoes and ask, “What would make this easiest and best for them?”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Even though I grew up in Connecticut, I have been an Arizona State sports fan since childhood. Finally getting to come to ASU for graduate school was a dream come true. So for anyone coming to visit me, my first highlights always start with campus and probably a sporting event. I like to show people the place that not only helped shape me, but has been responsible for the professional doors that have opened ever since.
Beyond that, I wouldn’t consider “tour guide” to be a strength of mine! For me, I like to invite people into my life. If they’re visiting from out of town, I want to take them to the small Italian place nearby that my wife and I love (Baci Italian Bistro), or the indoor playground that my almost 2-year-old daughter loves (Kids Empire). My favorite way to entertain out of town guests is to show them what our life is like here!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My success would not exist if not for the combination of the guidance and support I’ve gotten my entire life. My parents raised me to be someone who understood that great things are not accomplished without hard work, and without persevering past the point where others often give up. My wife has been a consistent support, often encouraging me to push myself beyond what I thought was possible. And then there is “guru” business advice that I have picked up along the way, including one of my favorite’s: a quote from Alex Hormozi’, “Do so much volume that it would be unreasonable for you to fail.”
