Meet Dr. Gilda Carle | Relationship Expert from Boardroom to Bedroom

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Gilda Carle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Gilda, how do you think about risk?
I started my career as a teacher in the most dangerous neighborhood in New York, the South Bronx. While I taught the kids the academics, they taught ME street smarts. Today, street smarts punctuate all my work: in advising corporate leaders, in my speeches, in my teaching of MBA courses, in my media coaching, in my books, and in my columns. With knowledge, credentials, and experience, what other people consider “risk-taking,” I consider calculated next moves. I appear on national television, I write columns and books, and I am a keynote speaker. I base my philosophy on Sun Tzu’s “Art of War,” and I told the Wall Street Journal that I prefer its translation of “Art of Strategy.” What may appear as “Open mouth, insert foot” behavior, each move I take is backed by a calculated strategy. I believe there are no failures; only lessons in what to do next.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my career as a teacher in the crime-infested South Bronx of New York. I applied the street smarts I learned from my young students to the relationship advice I eventually gave from bedroom to boardroom to audiences from homeless female veterans to Wall Street CEOs.
I noticed that people who went out on one date called themselves “relationship experts,” but I am the real deal, having studied interpersonal relationships and self-esteem as part of my Ph.D. at New York University. Companies call upon me because relationships in corporate America are crucial to maintain the bottom line; relationships are not just love interactions. All relationships begin with the relationship we have with ourself.
There’s no one else who integrates personal AND professional relationships, joining pop culture with business. I have been a sought-after product spokesperson for huge brands from Hallmark to Match.com to Galderma Pharmaceuticals because audiences trust me. My 18 book titles include: “Don’t Bet on the Prince!,” “Don’t Lie on Your Back for a Guy Who Doesn’t Have Yours,” “Your Cheater Keeps Cheating–And You’re Still There,” “One-Up Strategies Business Schools Don’t Teach,” “Amplify Your Media Presence, Amplify Your Brand.”
I’m now the Relationship Expert to the Stars on the Health Page of the National Enquirer. Some titles of my column are “Bud Light Brew-Haha Is Just Business,” “Senior Citizen Madonna Needs to Grow Up!,” and “Bandito Baldwins Live in Fantasy Land.”
Everything I do leads to something else. For example, seeing me on national TV, MTV called me to be their “Love Doc” and Canadian TV had me visiting their studios weekly for appearances. My brand is the “Dr. Gilda” name (the media dropped my surname!). I enjoy adventure, creativity, and the challenge of not knowing what’s next. I have received other offers to do other exciting things in the next few weeks.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I came to Arizona, I only knew the asphalt jungle of New York. Now that I’ve lived here for 5 years, I take my visiting friends for hikes, country music venues, long walks, sunset viewing, tap dancing, and pilates sessions. I no longer have to worry about the impedimens of that 4-letter word “snow.”

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe so much to so many. I had mentors getting my Ph.D., being on national television, writing my columns, writing my books, speaking to large audiences, advising corporate leaders on Wall Street, and more. But the one mentor to whom I owe everything is GOD. Because of GOD, I feel healthy, protected, and bold to provide my voice and skills to those who need me most.
