We had the good fortune of connecting with Dylan Doppelmayr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dylan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I started my journey as a creative from a family friend. It was the summer after my freshman year in high school that I got interested in photography. I was already inclined in the fine arts, I played violin from 5th grade to 9th grade and practiced ceramic art throughout high school. So it was a somewhat easy transition into photography. This family friend of mine was touring all the national parks and was taking photos of the landscapes. I thought they were so pretty and it sparked something in me to go and enroll in my high school photography class. Since then I’ve been inspired to take photos and create beautiful images.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
If there’s anything that sets me apart from others is that I truly do not care if a photoshoot takes 30 minutes or 3-4 hours. I will work with you for however long you think is right and I will work until I know we got the best images. That’s what makes me most excited about the job I’m in, if I’m in a shoot and the perfect shot doesn’t come until 2 hours in that’s fine. That’s what we work for. I work for that perfect shot in every shoot. If I don’t come away with that perfect shot, it’s back to the drawing board. To get to where I’m at doesn’t come without it’s struggles, but it’s only the beginning for me so there’s only a few minor hiccups that I’ve come across and ironed out pretty quickly. I want the world to know that I’m out here like every artist to live a life of fulfillment doing what I love and showing them the process of my creativity.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area I would definitely show them around Old Town Scottsdale. That area has a lot of history and there’s great shops there and there is a really nice fine art museums and some great Native American museums. A great spot to stop by is Sugar Bowl, you can get a quick ice cream treat while you walk down the historic streets of Old Town. If you go up a little further to the Scottsdale Fashion Square there is an awesome visual arts museum/experience called Wonderspaces. They have some great exhibits in the museum and they get changed out every so often, so it’s always a new experience.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
If I had to give a shout-out to a couple of people that have helped me in my career as a growing photographer it would be my high school photography teacher: Kris Wood, and my good friend: Adrian Alcaraz. They both have helped me so much become the photographer I am today. Adrian has helped me garner a better and more consistent editing style by showing tips on how to better edit my images which I’ve always been thankful for. Mr. Wood taught me everything I know about cameras and the artistry behind the lens. He taught me great lessons in life as well as so many amazing things about the history of cameras, photographers, and the first images that were ever taken. If it wasn’t for Mr. Wood I don’t know where I’d be as a creative.
