We had the good fortune of connecting with Eliav Gabay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eliav, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Balance is interesting because there’s an ebb and flow to it. As a journalist, it’s easy to fall into the rhythm of overworking because there’s always another story to tell. It’s up to us to pick our spots, and yes, choose ourselves when we’re feeling depleted. I tend to overwork at first until I feel comfortable in the rhythm then slowly dwindling it back to a place that is more sustainable.
Like happiness, balance can be fleeting so it takes constant work as life circumstances change to keep the balance between taking care of one’s body, mind, family, social life, & career..

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve learned that in many industries, and definitely journalism, it all comes back to the people. It’s always about the people. The people in your corner, the people you work with, the people you work for. Once I figured that part out, things became a lot clearer. You can be in a high paying job in a great city, but if your work or home environment are soul sucking and energy draining due to the people, then it doesn’t matter how great of a job it is – that fleeting happiness will be harder to consistently come by. Nothing comes easy, but when you surround yourself with the right people, the load feels lighter, therefore you can handle more & stay consistent in your pursuit of whatever dream you’re chasing.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The food list I’d take my best friend to would likely include: The Chuckbox, Valley Wings, Taco Boys, Venezia’s Pizzeria, Steak 44, Valle Luna, & Moira Sushi.
Activities would be something to the tune of golfing at TPC, Kayaking at Saguaro Lake Ranch, hiking anywhere, and maybe hitting a Suns, Mercury, ASU, or Diamondbacks game while we’re at it.
We’d go out at The Hot Chick in Scottsdale, Lucky’s in downtown, & maybe even show them Mill Ave in Tempe.
I could go on and on – how about Sedona or Lake Havasu too? I love Arizona.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s an endless amount of people who deserve credit for helping me get to where I am.
Of course, my family & friends across the world that have always supported me and loved me even on my toughest days. Especially on the tough days.
And none of this would be possible without fantastic mentors like Brad Cesmat and our incredible squad at Sports360AZ.
