We had the good fortune of connecting with Ellicia Romo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ellicia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had been helping self employed people and sales people learn how to use social media for their business and I kept getting the question, “If I don’t really want to take the time to do this for my business who can I hire to do it for me”? My answer over and over was no one, because you need your social media to be personal and reflect who you are. All the companies I knew would have cookie cutter content. That made me realized that I can fill a need that would also be fun for me to do. The way that I am different from other social media management companies is that I completely customize what gets posted.
I also saw many people attend classes and leave feeling like they got it and just as fast, forget what they learned. There were also people who felt like the class went to quickly and they needed more one on one attention. So I saw a need for the educational piece and the one on one tutoring.
I knew I had a skill and a love for social media that could help people transform their business and could be fun for me. I knew I could take away their stress and create a win/win business.
Social Butterfly was then born.
I offer education and/or management of social platforms for small business, self employed and sales people.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart and gets me super excited is that my clients are my partners. We work together to create the best content for them and their business. I spent years teaching classes so people will know how to use their social media.
As stated above, over and over I heard people say I understand the value and I just don’t have the time to do all of this myself. They would ask who I recommended they hire. I would honestly say no one.
All of the companies I knew that did social media management just made cookie cutter content. All people/businesses in the same industry got the same posts, etc…
I believe that social media content needs to be unique enough to show the business and small business owner’s personality. The character of the business and what they stand for are important for the world to see. Therefore I created Social Butterfly AZ LLC, in order to be customized to the individual or business. I can post on their behalf, comment on others posts for them, grow engagement and even sit with them one on one and teach them how to do things themselves if that’s what they want to do. Of course, I still do group classes as well.
Social Butterfly is not just social media management we are also social media education. We meet our clients where they are and give them what they need. Every plan is a tailored, customized plan.
I get very excited when my clients have more success because of what we create on their social media platforms. I watch their analytics and make sure they are getting their needs me. There is no set it and forget it strategy when you partner with Social Butterfly. We keep people top of mind with their communities, and we are passionate about it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Personally I love the outdoors and we have some amazing hiking in AZ. I would take them to see all the best trails. Of course if that wasn’t their things I would have to get feedback from them on what they like to do. It is their vacation after all 😁 I think we also have great Mexican food, so I would take them for authentic Mexican cuisine. All tourists have to spend time in Scottsdale especially if they like the night life. However, downtown Chandler and Gilbert have some great spots as well.
I may take them on a Dolly Steamboat ride at Canyon Lake or to have a scenic meal at Lake Pleasant.
I would probably have to leave the Phoenix area and take them to Sedona as well or through Oak Creek Canyon.
During the season spring training baseball is great. and if they are a golfer, I know we have some great golf courses.

Josh Pitts of SHRED Media is a social media mentor of mine. I am a part of his group called SHRED U. We meet weekly and I consulted with Josh before I got started with Social Butterfly as a business. Josh also owns shrEDIT and I work with them on having my videos professionally edited. Josh is a great guy and has encouraged my success.

I also want to give a shout out to Alison Bechtal Clark. She is a business coach that I have worked with. At the time that I had the urge to start social butterfly I was in one of her coaching programs, called Business Victory Academy. It was through her support that I took the plunge, created a business plan and moved ahead with the plan.

I believe every good coach/mentor still needs a coach of their own.

If I can add one more, I would like to give a shout out to Nicole Thompson of Joi in Style. Nicole helped me pick the name Social Butterfly. It fits me and my business perfectly. Nicole is so creative. She specializes as a wardrobe stylist, however her creatitivy flows through all that she does.
