We had the good fortune of connecting with Elloheim Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elloheim, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I’m human and I feel hundreds of different emotions everyday when it comes to owning a business like mine. Have I thought about giving up from time to time? Yes, but I’ve never have. Although, if I ever get discouraged there’s a couple things that I do.

First, if I’m frustrated at a point in time, my mother always taught me to walk away from whatever I’m doing and go get some fresh air or do something to take my mind off it for a little while. Once I come back with a clear head I’m able to resolve my conflict and complete my task within my business. Another way I handle discouragement and frustration is reminding myself of what I’ve done in the past. I believe that if you sit down and list your accomplishments within your business, big or small, you’re able to build that confidence that whatever comes next will be bigger than what you’ve done in the past.

My brand symbolizes never giving up and following your dreams to the fullest no matter what’s in front of you. So, me as the owner, I have to live my life through my brand and set as example for my supporters. I will always have that never give up mentality because I know how far I’ve came and how much of an impact my brand has had on others.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The idea of BeSpecial came about in high school when I struggled to make the varsity basketball team my freshman year. When my friends with whom I’ve been playing basketball with since middle school made the varsity team, I was a little discouraged. I came home after basketball tryouts with a sad look on my face and my father sits me down and tells me that I have to “BeSpecial”. I have to put in the extra work to get to that level of play whether it’s extra reps in the weight room, extra laps on the track, or even extra shots in the gym after practice. He stated that I have to be willing to go the greater mile to become successful. During my freshman year, I made a name for myself on the JV team and got promoted to Varsity that same year.

The words “BeSpecial” stuck with me all throughout high school, even on my social media posts I would hashtag “#BeSpecial” at the end of my caption. There would be students with BeSpecial posters in the crowd during some games and everyone knew when they heard BeSpecial my name would be attached to it.

My freshman year of college is when I realized I wanted to make BeSpecial into a brand. My logo consisted of the 3 clocks; the round clock, hourglass, and digital clock. This shows that it takes time to find that unique side of you and really embrace it, it takes time to BeSpecial. After my logo was finalized, I bought a grey long sleeve from Walmart and heat pressed my logo big on the front.

The next day I wore the same long sleeve to basketball practice and my teammates were intrigued with what I had on. That’s the moment I realized I could make BeSpecial into something big.

My brand came from within myself and my story, that’s what makes it so valuable in my eyes. Today, my brand has worked with a great amount of highly talked about brands and has even got the chance to partner with different high schools in the valley. I’ve learned that everything takes time especially when trying to bring your business to success you have to take each step very carefully. I want to let the world know that if you have a dream don’t be afraid to at least TRY and make that dream a reality. I had no clue on how to run a business a couple years ago, but as I improved I’m slowly becoming the business owner I’ve always strived to be.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them the best time ever I would probably start by taking them to a nice breakfast at one of my favorite breakfast spots called Hash Kitchen. I know my best friend likes to do extravagent activities, so I would also take him to ride either ATVs in a rural area or Jet Skis at Lake Pleasant. I would introduce them to the city of Sedona where we can hike and enjoy some cooler weather. Sedona also has some appetizing restaurants we can check out as well. When it comes to nightlife, I know my best friend would want to check out the party scene just a little bit. With that being said I would take him to Old Town Scottsdale and let him enjoy some of the clubs in that area as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The very first person that came to mind that deserves all the credit in the world is my mother. I know a lot of people give credit to their parents just because they’re their parents, but I would say my mom is the one who put me on game. When I first starting making shirts for my clothing brand, she introduced me to the heat press, she introduced me to vinyl, and the whole process of making a shirt. She even helped me launch my first website and showed me the ins and out of running a website.

On top of that, summer of 2020 when my brand finally started to pop off and get some recognition, I had to leave for school in the Fall in a different state. I was stressed out because I didn’t know how I was going to fulfill orders while being at school. I was grateful for my mom to take that role for me in my business and ship out orders for me. Also, at the time we were using a screen printer to print all our shirts. So, she would have to go get the shirt from our wholesaler, bring it to the screen printer, pick it back up from the screen printer a couple days later, package up the shirt to make it look nice, and then ship it off. This went on my entire junior year of college and it also helped with our communication when running a business. She was in charge of all this while also working her own job and being a mother to my 3 younger siblings.

I give a great deal of credit to my mom because without her my brand wouldn’t be where it is today.
