Meet Erika | Owner of Caring for the Earth Dress Rentals

We had the good fortune of connecting with Erika and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erika, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for Caring for the Earth Dress Rentals after seeing many of my customers through my modeling/fashion business (More Than Modeling) spend vast amounts of money on clothing kids quickly grew out of. Those expensive ‘wear once’ items for special occasions such as weddings, prom and pageants.
I knew some families couldn’t afford to waste money and I am also aware of how fashion is one of the Earth’s major polluters. So, with saving money and helping the planet in mind, I came up with the idea of utilizing some of my own clothing into shoots and some families also donated clothes their kids grew out of. Eventually I had so many special occasion and fancy dresses I decided a rental business was definitely the way to go!
What should our readers know about your business?
Caring for the Earth Dress Rentals is a dress and clothing rental company for special occasion dresses and more.
We have dresses for proms, weddings, pageants and fashion shows, for ages 2 through adults. Other items we have for rent/sale include accessories (most of which are made out of discarded fabrics), angel wings, historical type costumes, western wear and even a few sharp suits for young (age 10-12) boys!
We rotate stock frequently and if you are looking for something please feel free to ask. The likelihood is we will have something that may work for you!
Every month or two we hold big blow out sales! Our sale items are usually bargain prices and our rentals start as low as only $5!
Our boutique is open by appointment only, however we do advertise on our IG page about open events, model searches, fashion shows and closeouts.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We love all of Arizona! A week would start in Tombestone and end at the Grand Canyon on a long road trip to show the variety of this amazing state. Stop overs at Jerome, Flagstaff, Sedona and any ghost towns off the beaten path.
Restaurants would depend on mood and there are so many good ones, but some of our favorites include Cafe Monarch in Scottsdale, The Haunted Hamburger in Jerome and Mariposa in Sedona.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to thank my students, models, their families (especially the mom’s), shoppers and supporters. As well as a special mention of thanks to my good friend Dianna Voisin who has become an integral part of Caring for the Earth Dresses! Thank you!
