We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Goodwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The inspiration for Selkie Coastal Soaps was simple, our daughter’s sensitive skin. We needed alternatives when she often reacted to dyes and other irritants in name brand soaps and decided to make our own soaps using premium goat’s milk as the soap base. After sharing the soap with friend’s and family as Christmas gifts, they liked the soaps so much we were inundated with requests. And with that natural progression we turned Selkie Coastal Soaps into a business that makes product with every skin type in mind. in mind.

What should our readers know about your business?
Let’s face it, the hard reality is the market for soaps is oversaturated. It’s easy to buy name brand products at one-stop shops and there are plenty of alternatives. We’re proud of being able to make products that we love and are environmentally conscious. We avoid plastics and use recycled paper. Our aim was always to make affordable, eco-friendly, premium handmade products for sensitive skin while keeping all skin types in mind. We believe in our product and feel comfortable sharing our soaps and spa products with others.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Morgan Hill, we recommend starting Saturday mornings by getting a jelly filled doughnut hole at Donut & Things, taking the kids to Railroad Park and grabbing a bite to eat downtown. It’s safe to say, that you can find whatever you’re craving in the short walk to downtown.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My friends and family for their love and support of Selkie Coastal Soaps. Allan Villanueva at Everglow Photography for capturing pictures with such an artistic eye to highlight our line of products. The Morgan Hill Sidewalk Saturdays, Andrea and the staff at Maison A, and Cate with Kane & Ruby for backing our hometown involvement. Finally, Nicole Maican Handcrafted Art for social media advice and encouragement.
