We had the good fortune of connecting with Ethan Riley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ethan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process really came about through wanting to do everything myself. Wanting to be a musician and wanting to have a career in music guided me through all of the steps along the path to ultimately becoming what i want to become. Some of those steps being attending shows, hosting shows, learning to mix/master/engineer. Those are what created “Fluorescent Records” and my personal band “Psycho”.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Producer and Music Artist. I run “Fluorescent Records” and a band called “Psycho”. What sets us apart is that i approach everything with an experimental and “never before heard” type of mindset. Trying to push the boundaries and trying to find something new is what I live for. Everything is purely for the art and the music and nothing else. Theres 2 challenges to overcome in order to be where i am and ultimately be where even you want to be in the entertainment industry. That is being able to push yourself into presenting your work, and being able to push through others that may try to put you down. There is a lot of competition and they want you to think its out of reach but ultimately nothing is out of reach if you invest and trust your product.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A week long trip in Vegas is like asking what there is to do in a day at Disney world! My Suggestion would be to check out Freemont and Main St for two separate days if you are looking for more of Vegas underground art and entertainments. I would save those for weekdays and then on the weekend, go attend a house show or even an underground rave! Take yourself out of your comfort zone. As for food, theres a bunch of great places to eat on “Restaurant Row” but i would suggest looking for smaller ran restaurants like “Serranos”, “Pops”, or “Red Rock Pizza”.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The main people first and foremost are the friends and the family that push me to move forward. From there, I want to shout out my biggest inspirations Mr Bungle, Pinkly Smooth, Primus, and experimental groups such as The Dillinger Escape Plan. Huge thanks to people that we have collaborated with and grown with in the scene as well such as ForTheCulture, TheSpace, AsteroidM, and Gamorex.
