We had the good fortune of connecting with G. Brian Benson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi G. Brian, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It chose me. After deciding to leave my family business back in 2008. I honestly didn’t know what I wanted to do. I just knew that I wasn’t growing there anymore. I felt like I had a gift inside of me that wanted to come out although I didn’t know what it was at that time. One day shortly after leaving, I was feeling out of balance. I have always tried to be the best version of myself, so I sat down and wrote out 5 things that I knew would help stay in balance during my transition. It really helped and shortly thereafter my intuition “screamed” expand your balance list and write a book. I had never written anything before, but listened and in about 2 months my first book, “Brian’s List – 26 1/2 Easy to Use Ideas on How to Live a Fun, Balanced, Healthy Life!”, was finished. I self-published it and surprisingly it won a couple of awards and it pointed me in this new, exciting direction of creating positive content. I continued to step out of my comfort zone, which lead to all kinds of unexpected creative gifts that were unleashed that I had no idea were inside of me. I moved to LA for 10 years and pursued acting, while continuing to write more books, coach, speak, and create positive media.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work involves many aspects. Ultimately, I love to create positive, empowering content. It could be a book, TEDx presentation, podcast, coaching course/program, spoken word video, short film, blog, collaboration with other like-minded creatives, or even my brand-new production company Reawaken Media. Ultimately, anything that inspires, entertains, and helps others become better versions of themselves. I have found most of my work, has originated from my own life journey. I have been through many different situations, adventures, successes, and hardships, all the while trying to hold a 10,000 ft. view above it all observing my own life experiences so that I can grow, learn and be the best me that I can. This has become the foundation of what I create. I also love to mentor and coach others. I have found that I am good at helping people step out of their own comfort zones, just like I have done myself.

I was asked one time, what sets me apart from others. After thinking about it for a moment, I answered, “It’s four things. First, that I have already done a lot of growth work personally. Books, courses, hard-knocks, and much personal observation. I dedicated my life to becoming the best version of myself many, many years ago and have consciously paid attention through it all, which has helped me become very self-aware and help me help others.

Secondly, my intuitive nature. Having developed it solidly for myself through self-awareness, life-balance, healthy-living and staying grounded. I can utilize my intuition when guiding others and help them map a plan to move forward with confidence and success.

Thirdly, my empathetic nature. I know what it feels like to be stuck and not know what my next step is going to be. I am a very good listener, understand what my clients are feeling and am very attuned with helping them move forward. I also know what it feels like to step out of one’s comfort zone and how powerful it can be to gain confidence, move forward, and attain a goal or dream.

Finally, I am curious. My curious nature has been my compass and led me to all kinds of gifts and experiences, I never dreamt of having. I use my curiosity to learn about my clients and help guide them to be the best version of themselves. It is incredibly rewarding.

There are many things I am very proud of. Continually stepping out of my comfort zone and following my intuitive and curious nature. Venturing into triathlons at a young age and finishing 4 Ironman races, riding my bicycle across the United States, leaving my family business into the unknown, having the courage to write and self-publish multiple books, bravely overcome my fear of speaking, moving to LA as a green actor and diving in headfirst and finding success, staying strong and overcoming a bout of prostate cancer and navigating a healing 6 month journey across America in an RV. I am grateful for all those experiences, even the tough ones. They were often crucial re-directs that helped point me on the right track as well as teach me to be grateful for what I have and can do.

As for what has helped me build such a strong reputation within my market…I think it has just been my consistency, reliability, creativity, and most importantly my authenticity. Those characteristics are very important to me, and I know that when I seek out others to collaborate with, they all need to be present.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love local history and I love natural beauty. I would definitely take my best friend up to Jerome and take in the history as well as amazing galleries and unique features. Where else can you walk through abandoned ruins, get a great meal, an old time tin type photo and witness and chat with the eclectic locals! After that, I would take them to Tuzigoot National Monument. It’s a wonderful place to visit and understand how amazing the Native Americans were hundreds of years before. After that we would then go visit Sedona and witness the beauty of the red rocks and an amazing sunset.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate this article to all of the kind and caring folks that encouraged me along my journey.
